Hey there fellas...
Got a question for all you audi nuts out there. I am experimenting with tire pressures to optimize the ride/handling of my ride. ( haha ) I bought the car used and the tire pressure is 18f/42r. The handling is awesome except for a few things...
1. The rear of the car is sliding out under hard cornering?
2. the car has a real nose down look to it, looks great( and the chicks dig it) but I can't decide if the rim should be so close to the ground( in the front only?)
3. Relating to #2 the front rim seem to be getting a little scraped up, and I cana't figure out why?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated... this is my first car and at age 26 you would think I would know these things but, but I don't :-) ( guess I spend a little too much time in front of the computer, and not enough on the road)
TIA
Pat

I would definitely get some air in those front tires...whew! When I autocross my car I have
about 44 front, 36-38 rear...on a quattro. This might be a little bit harsh for city driving...how about 38-40 front and 36 rear. Try that out for a week or so....
18 PSI in the front? sheeesh!
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

If the car needs oil, don't pour it in through the fuel tank line! That's been done already. In fact, I think it would be wise to ask questions before doing anything to your car.
Just thinking of your safety (and ours)!

18 PSI is almost flat! You may think is looks cool, but to me it would would look like someone with an almost flat tire. Furthermore, you are risking a blowout with all the heat generated by all the additional sidewall flex you created. If you must have the low profile look, get some real low profile tires (50 series or lower) and/or lower your suspension.
You are also pissing away a lot of gas. I found my gas mileage improved 1-2 mpg just by bringing the tires up to 36 from 32, with no real detriment to ride.
Tom Halter
98.5 2.8 QM Pearl/Onyx
is at least 32 in the front. too low air pressure in the front is whats causing your rim to get scrubed. also, low F pressure and high R pressure creates oversteer.
Do 32 F, 40 R, see how u like it

Heheh...talk about monster traction (well, maybe at 18psi, not really, but yeah, you get my point).. .
i run 42 psi all around on my car (225/40/18), it goes nice. In any case, if you keep your tires a little on the high side, you get a bit better gas mileage, so why not. . . .
Edmund Louie
98 A4Q 30V
