Big O

Do we have a little database somewhere of what people have been getting/paying for their used A4s lately?
It's probably an old debate, but I'm a little confused. On the one hand, there are threads in the Archives about not getting more than $17,000 for a year-old A4 (Huh? Are you nuts?), and others asking $29,000 "great deal" for their own year-old A4 (also "Huh? Are you nuts?").
I know that it's an inexact science and depends on everything from the region to shape, mileage, alignment of Saturn and Uranus, sports scores etc., but there has to be a general trend here.
My '98 1.8TqMS, without Winter Package or Trip Computer, and sans CD (which I stuffed in at $279 myself) went out the door for $25,9xx (that was the largest check I ever wrote!) plus another $1,500 or so in taxes. Now I look at www.edmunds.com, and they list a '97 (!) with 25,000 miles for $20,000 trade or $23,000 (rounded) retail. KBB even goes so far as to list the '97 (!) 1.8T at $26,000 retail ! What are they smoking . . . ?!?!?
I figured a clean '98 with 25,000 miles has to be worth no more than $22,000-$23,000, and I wouldn't pay more than $20,000 for a similar '97 in the same shape. That's not bad considering the historically low Audi resale figures, but this is admittedly a more wanted (and better) car.
Am I nuts or am I just underpricing myself here? I know I'm asking for flames from other A4 owners that would like to consider the value of their cars to be stratospheric, but in the real world it's hard to get much $$$ out of your used car. Then again, it's also hard to find a good used car for as low as one would think. Someone is making more money here than would be apparent at first glance . . . . is this turning into a philosophical question?
Big Cheap O '98 1.8TqMS (and worth a million bucks!)
