Dont know if any of you peruse the Vortex also, but George dthere did a neat write up on wheel repair, which is something I get asked about a lot- Take a look!

I emailed her last week for more specifics on wheel repair. I'm going to try to get my hands on her thesis. She briefly told me that in most cases, the repaired material is as strong or stronger than the original.
The substandard repairs were associated with cold working of the metal. I presume this means bending this metal without applying heat. So be careful if you have a "lesser" place repair your rims. The WCC has a great reputation.
