All,
On my 98.5 Avant the sport steering wheel came with the "dimples" ring around the Audi rings. Does anyone know if you can take this off and replace it with one with the "bolts" instead? For that matter, anyone know where you can get a metal one like the TT sport wheel?
Just wondering,
Rick
98.5 Avant QMS

Rick,
I'd think it over about changing anything in the center part of the steering wheel.
Don't forget, there's an airbag inside and pulling apart the cover might make it malfunction or go off. Adding something onto the cover (glued on, etc.) might make that glued on itrem a projectile if the airbag ever goes off.
Change out the entire steering wheel by a dealer or qualified service, is the only option I'd recommend.......if you really want to change the looks.
Bob B
98.5 2.8QTS

Some time ago I had a 1967 GTO with an after-market steering wheel. Wood with chrome spokes and cut-out circles in the spokes. After a long drive from the White Mountains, I pulled off Rte 495 onto MA Route 9, stopped at my first red light, started again, and found myself holding the steering wheel in my hands. The car politely steered itself to the side of the road, and I bolted it back on. I spent a little while thinking about my recent highway speeds. Ever since, I have appreciated the way the factory installs things like steering wheels.
All,
I am not going to take my steering wheel apart. No way...No how!!! But, I thought if these peices were just glued on that I could swap it out for the other. If they really are attached then I have no options at all. Look at the picture above for what I have and what I would want.
What do you think. Glued on or one peice? Or, am I being stupid?
Rick

Maybe you can replace the cover but not the entire wheel?
