For those that have first hand expierience with radio DIN adaptor kits that allow an aftermarket radio (Alpine 7930) to be mounted in a 98' A4 dash, please let me know which is the best looking kit. I know of only two makers: lltek and Scosche. Which is better and why?
I have a competition system with PPI, Pheonix Gold, MB Quart, and JL Audio running off the Concert head unit. Just can't live with it. Thought I could, but sound is munipulated by the Concert piece just too much.
Went through archives multiple times; however, there is not a clear answer on which the A4.org prefers. Please help. Thanks, DS

I bought the Lletk kit. Why? It looks better than the Scosche and it's an actual Audi part. The Scosche kit isn't that bad, but it's an integral piece that covers the whole DIN opening and it looks (to me!!!) kinda tacky. The plastic is all shiny... The Lltek kit has 2 pieces that fit on the end of the standard DIN radio and they look just like all the other pieces in the center console trim. It will get more points for aesthetics on the IASCA circuit if that's where you compete.
BUT there are quite a few people who have the Scosche kit and they say they like it (there was a picture of it in the archive that was "lost" a couple of weeks ago). So I'd vote for the Lltek one, even though it's about $50 US.
Rob 98 1.8TQT w/ Alpine 7844 goin' deaf in NYC

It's not much shinier than any other plastic on the dash.
When people get in my car & see the radio (Eclipse 5302) with the Scosche kit, the first thing out of their mouth is usually, "Wow, this is the radio that comes with the car!?"
This, even tho' the Eclipse doesn't have red lighting...so it's testimony to the Scosche kit & the good looks of the Eclipse!
Now if someone would just figure out how to move the airbag control module so I can stuff my PPI PAR 225 half DIN EQ 3/4" farther back so it sits flush in the old ashtray area!
steve

I just had an Alpine 7940 installed with the Lltek kit, and I'm pretty happy with it. Not perfect, but the sound quality makes up for it.
George
My answer would be neither. I have the Scosche adapter and seemed a little flimsy. Although, the pictures of them looked great. But I have a Sony stereo and the faceplate left too much of a gap above and below the face plate. The radio sits too far back and I had to request addition spacers. The one nagging question is how do you secure the radio from being yanked out?
I saw the LLtek's radio spacers in the catalog. I think it requires that you would place the radio's trim plate on top of it. It added extra creases, so I didn't opt for that either. I made a custom one. It will be finished in a week. I'll post a picture when it's done.
In the meantime, if your in L.A. and want to pick up a Scosche kit cheap, I'm willing to sell.

Sounded pretty sweet to me. I've had horrible luck with Sony in terms of reliability, but I hear the ES series stuff is better than the mass market junk.
I narrowed to the Clarion or the Eclipse. (I have a distinct dislike for Alpine stuff, both aesthetically & functionally...no offense to anyone who like it). I couldn't hear $600 worth of difference from the Clarion to the Eclipse...maybe $200??? ;-)
If you like a bit of retro with your sweet sound...try the McIntosh version of the Clarion head! Fewer items along the signal path, but mostly the same unit. Suh-weet!
Oh to be rich....
Anyway, I ended up with the Eclipse 5302 that now resides in my A4 <------Audi content
steve
The ES line showed up in the mid 80's right after a hostile take-over of a much smaller high-end audio company in Japan. That much smaller company remained a seperate entity still producing their products under Sony as the ES line...
Good choice with the Eclipse...
How does the color look with the red dash lights??

...for mounting my Sony MD player. I got it from Audi in Europe, where it comes standard along with every A4. It is not the coolest looking but rock solid and "designed" for the car.
Now all I need is the Becker Pro MD head unit - another special import :-)
- Stan

The Audi spacers in my A4
