View Full Version : Looking for good rear photo of cars with 225/40 and 235/40 18's!

Specifically, I want to see how the wheel looks with each. Some 18's are 8" wide and some are 7.5" wide. I don't like the look of the rim being wider than the tire and prefer an even look.

I'm looking at getting the ACE Monaco (18 x 7.5) with either 225/40 or 235/40 tires and want to see how they look.

Thanks!!
Nick Snyder

How do you like them? Good ride? Any rubbing or bottoming out?
Nick Snyder

Dmak,

Did you modify your lenses? They look all red in the pic. If you did mod them, how? What model year are the lights?

I know they are 18's, but don't know the width or the tire size. Nick N, this is with Eurosport suspension, correct?

They seem to like it. I would think a good match for the 235 would be anything from 7.5 to 8.5. With 8" probably ideal. My tires have a pronounced rim protector(S-02PP).

My concern is fitment not the width of the rim. If I knew without a doubt that with my factory sport suspension, that a 235/40-18 on 18x7.5x35 wheels would fit with no rubbing, I would get them!

So if anyone with an A4 (not S4....S4's have more room) that is running the setup I am talking about, please speak up.
Nick Snyder

There
had been some (ok, ok, TONS) of discussion on the Audiworld message boards about whether a 235 tire
would have enough clearance when mounted on the stock Avus 17" rims. I can assure you... there is plenty
of clearance. I can get my index finger between the suspension bits and the tire on both front and rear--a
#2 pencil passes through without touching anything. The 225s on my A4 were closer--no room for the
pencil. Looks like you could even (dare I say) get a 245 on there.

I know he is talking about a 225/50R16 on the A4, but you may want to do the math and see how they compare. Some info at the least.
Mark P

Yes, the S4 has TONS more clearance than does the A4. I told him when he was looking to get rid of those POS OEM tires that he could put 245's on his car but he opted for 235's instead. When he had his A4 he went to a plus zero and put 225/50-16 (SP8000's) on and there was less than a pencil width of clearance between the tire and the suspension piece. BUT, the 225/50-16 has more of a "buldge" to it which actually makes it get closer to the suspension because the rim is a little too narrow. With a larger diameter tire/wheel setup, the rim is wider and that will (for lack of a better word) stretch the tire out and give more room. So I know that with a 225/40-18 that there will be more room than if I had a 225/50-16. So I am guessing that there would probably be enough room to put a 235/40 or 235/35-18 on and have no problem.

Sorry this is long....I was trying to make sure we understood what I was wanting and where I was coming from. : )
Nick Snyder

Yes, the backup light portion of the talights were painted red. I used a special paint/film that you can purchase at aftermarket shops.

The wheels are great! The ride is not that bumpy at all and I am in the NYC area.. No problems with rubbing or bottoming out at all.
