View Full Version : have a 1992 100s - whats hte max size tire i can use/ gabe 01-26-2000, 12:09 PM i was interested in the 17' rim .. im wondering what are my limitations.. is my bolt coonfig compatible with new audi tires? i was interested in ronal r-28's actually.. thanks peoples... uve been too good.. gabe Kevin 01-26-2000, 12:24 PM I have a '93 100 and as such we have essentially the same car. You can go to a 225/45/17 with no problems, the wheel is the issue. do not go to a 17" R-28, they are too wide - no matter what Gary at Ronal will tell you. The back will be to wide and the fronts will just plain stick out. A 7.5" wheel is the widest you really want to go with at least a 35mm offset. anything more aggressive will not fit right. b your bolt pattern (5x112) is the same as all these other cars (excluding the TT) good luck... gabe 01-26-2000, 02:34 PM gabe 01-26-2000, 03:46 PM now im looking for similar large spoked rim pattern of the r-28's -- now can u explain what the dimensions mean? sorry im not into the tire area of the car.. and what does the 225 and the 45 mean in '225/45/17' what is the desired config for my car? thicker wheels in the back? any rims that would fit me perfectly, in what style im looking for? thanks gabe kevin 01-27-2000, 06:35 AM 225 / 45 / 17 225 = the cross section (width) of the tire in mm, 45 is the profile or ratio of the side wall to the width of the tire. thus, the smaller the tires profile, the skinner the sidewall becomes. and finally the 17 refers to the wheels diameter. stock your car came with (an educated guess) a 195/65/15 and a 15x6" wheel with a 42mm offset (for non-quattro) as for putting wider, or "thicker" as you call them, wheels on the back - perhaps its a personal thing, but why would you do it. its not a rear wheel drive with gobs of torque. i would keep the front and rears the same (allowing for some rotation) and dont go overboard. again, do not go below a 35mm offset, they will stick out and look like crap gabe 01-27-2000, 03:56 PM a 7 spoke rim - preferrably 17' .. i heard that the Ronal R-28's are to wide for my car.. but i want the same style.. any ideas? im even interested in the projezto.. they look nice. thanks peoples gabe do u guys think 17's are too much for a silver audi 100s? thanks again |
