I'm thinking mine look a little narrow for the rims they are on (225/45 17 on a 17x8.5 rim). I may go to the next width tire when these ones wear out. Anyone try a wider tire than a 225 without rubbing problems?
JohnS
I use Pirelli P7000's 235/40 x 18 on 18 x 8 SSR Integral wheels, 35 offset. 98 A4 1.8Tqm, sport suspension, big Neuspeed sway bars.
Sidewalls stick out past the end of the rear bumper (tracks stuff up there in the rain, but Hey, in Phoenix it rarely rains!
No rub, though.

I'm running 235/40 R17 Pirelli P7000SS on 8.5" x 17" Projektzwo wheels with an ET35 offset. As Terry said, they do stick out about a 1/4" past the bottom of the fenders, but I corrected that for the most part by installing the Audi mud guards. The only place now that the debris really hits is just in front of the rear tires on the little 1" or so metal piece between the rear tire and the bottom of the back door.
I was actually considering going to 245/40 R17 on my next tire purchase, but the tires that I'm wanting to get (Sumitomo HTR Z-II) are not made in that size, so I'll stick with the 235/40's.
BTW, there is no rubbing problem with the stock Sport suspension.
G.
