Just ordered Avant 1.8. Have looked at various discussions on tire chains at this site. During review of this topic with salesman (I travel to a from Lake Tahoe), he said words to the effect: "Audi and this dealership require you to sign a waiver in regard to tire chains." I did not pursue this, i.e. waiver on what, the warranty? Anyone else heard anything like this? Is it normal?
(I intend to purchase cables. I dont anticipate using them unless the California Highway Patrol insists at a checkpoint, i.e so-called R3 conditions. I'd rather continue than turn back or sit in the car and watch others going on. I presently have a Subaru, and have driven in Tahoe area for years).
Get a copy of the waiver. Call AoA. Ask them if this is legit. If need be, call back and ask someone else.
This sounds kinda fishy. It does snow a bit in Germany, doesn't it?
The 98 manual SPECIFICALLY states that chains are verboten on the A4. As we have discussed often, the chains are hard on the suspension and risk catastrophic failure of the aluminum a-arms if they get contacted.
Since I have quattro and snow tires, this is not an issue for me. But, I agree about the waiver thing. What are they talking about? Why do they care? Doesn't sound legit to me.

I had to sign one. It's not like you're signing your life away. It's a small piece of paper that says my dealer told me that I wasn't supposed to put chains on my Audi with sport package. No legalese. From what the dealer told me, only sport package folks have to do this.
Warren
