Is it worth having a poll on Tire Sizes people are running as well as Brands?
I know some polls may seem boring but i think this one may help in choosing tires/wheels.
I am running 50mm lower suspension with 17"x8 wheels with 235x40x17 Falken GRBII tires,
no problems whatso ever.

Andy, I noticed quite a change from my 225/50/16 SP8000 to 205/55/16 NRW's. I'm not saying that I'm unhappy with them, but it isn't just a concept for me,I can tell every day that I'm giving up performance with this tire.
Anyway, How do you compare your Pirelli's to your SP8000?
Bill

I was bummed to give up the 8000's because I really liked them. The 4000's seem to perform about the same on dry pavement. I must add though that I probably don't drive the car to the point where you might be able to tell the difference in dry handling performance (in other words, at 9/10 they're about the same). I'm not sure how the 205/55 4000's would compare. I think the extra width might be helping with the dry pavement performance.
Wet performance seems to be about the same as well (excellent, like the 8000's). Haven't had them in snow yet...I'm going boarding the last week of this month, so I'll post what I think of that performance then. One concern, the reduced clearance between the larger tire and the suspension component might make it impossible to use tire cables in an emergency (extremely heavy snow/ice where chains are required even for quattro and M+S).
The car looks much more aggressive with more rubber, especially from behind. However, I think the 225/50 size tires would look better on 7.5 inch rims, instead of my 7 spoke 7" wheels (the sidewall sticks out about 1/2 inch beyond the rim; good for protecting the wheels though).

The Pirelli's feel "soft"....little bumps in the road that were noticable with the Dunlop's seem to be absorbed by the Pirelli's. Probably due to a softer compound.
I've had the Pirelli's installed for a week or so now, no snow/ice to speak of yet. In the dry they seem plenty grippy although I haven't really been pushing them too hard (they are snow tires afterall). They seem very good in the rain also.
I think they are the perfect compromise for an area of the country that sees more dry-road days than snow-covered road days (Eastern PA).

...so I could put 225/50/16s on. On the ET30, they stick outside the fender a bit. Unfortunately, the 16x7.5" Type C only came in ET30.
As far as handling goes, it's hard to say as the ET35s have snow tires on and the ET30s have hi-performance tires. The ET30s definitely handle better, but I'm not sure how much is attributed to offset and how much is attributed to tires. I like the look of the Ronal R-28s, so I may get another set to put the 225/5016 SP8000s on that I have sitting in my basement.
CraigB
