Had Dunlop Sp4000's put on my 98 1.8TQMS last week and one of the people working there, Discount Tire, accidently scratched all 4 7spokers, when he removed the wheel weights, which were put on the outside either by the factory or my Audi Dealer. They were real apologetic and sent them off to be re-finished. Sent away on Monday morning and received back on Tuesday evening. They look as good, if not better, than when they came from the factory. The store manager supervised the whole operation. Used tape weight on the inside. Told me to come back after 50 miles so they can re-check the torque. I'm really happy with Discount Tire. They made a mistake, and owned up to it. They also offer Tire Siping, which I won't have done. Does anyone know anything about this process? Thanks.
klutes

Klutes:
The 7 spokers sure are good looking wheels aren't they? But man, it's viturally impossible to get someone to unmount/mount a tire from one without scratching it.
Why did you replace your (presumably) SP8000 E's? on your 98 already? Were they worn out, or did you get tired of pulling "road hazards" out of the sidewalls?
Dan Alwood

Siping is a process where grooves are cut into the tire's tread blocks to improve their grip under inclement conditions. Naturally, it also makes those same tread blocks squirmy under normal conditions, as well as (probably, IMO) reducing the tread wear that you'll get.
Steve
