I read something about putting wider tires (225/50 R16?) on my 97 A42.8q. It sounds like a good idea for many reasons, mainly for protection for teh wheels from curb scrapes. Anyone had any experience, warnings with such a substitute? And what's the hot tire these days? Thanks.
Oh, a tip:
To improve handling and defeat the slap that one gets from seams in concrete highways, increase air pressure on the OEM tires to 40lb. Mine are the Goodyears and were, I thought inferior until I increased the pressure.
Regards,
Ron Williams

The Golf Bore's Homepage

And it looked and handled great. 225/50 16 will fit with no problem, it is a little close up front, but you won't rub. Lots of people are running with this tire set up since it looks great, protects your rim from scrapes, and handles better (mine handled better).
I upgraded to 17 rims, so I don't have this set up anymore. I got the ronal package with unfortunetely comes with rims so wide that even fat tires cannot protect them from scrapes. I'm sure these rims will be scraped and worthless before long.
Christian J.
