View Full Version : daily cleaning of brake dust Eric H. 11-02-1998, 03:55 PM Still looking for the most efficient daily ritual for removal of brake dust from those gleaming rims. Posted first on general discussion inadvertently. Sorry. Martin R 11-05-1998, 12:09 PM Several recommendations:
The best wheel cleaner I have seen is the armor all one - but be careful - has acid in it - be
sure to hose off right away and don't spill or spray on bodywork or windows!
THe best non acidic wheel cleaner I have come across is P21S - usually does the job, but
requires wiping.
The other suggestion is to wax the wheels with car wax, shine, then coat with thin coating of vaseline - then the dust wipes off real easy with a cloth.
Fourth alternative is change brake pads - see articles on Raybestos, and others in the forum. JD Zach 11-07-1998, 05:26 AM I replaced the OEM front pads with Rofrens ($69 from Clair). The reduction in brake dust is incredible. Now the rear wheels (still with OEM pads) get dirty twice as fast as the fronts, instead of the other way around. The only trade-off so far seems to be a bit of increased pedal effort in braking.
When I clean the wheels, I use car wash soap & a soft rag, and I wax them every other cleaning.
Good luck
-JD Zach
|
