Wow, what a great forum. This car has to be good with this much enthusiasm boiling over everyday on these postings. Well, here goes another inquiry about the benefits of 1.8 T vs the 2.8 6cylinder.
On the 1.8...
Do they really all drone @65 mph? (I just drove the Passat and thought the 1.8 engine was noisier than in the A4.
Which chip? Is there a consensus on which one does the best job, and does it truly transform the car & outperform the 2.8?
I'm set on the Sport Pkg., but the wife likes Auto, I'm voting 5 spd manual. Is there a profound performance difference between the Auto and Manual shift (like 2 seconds 0-60 that I hear about)?

On purchasing...
Should I expect $1,000 over cost, etc? I'm in Western New York State, and could go to PA or OH if necessary.. who has great deals on this car?
Thanks again. Jim

I just bought a 2.8Q manual at YBH in Edgmont, PA and got a very good deal -- 31k with leather, sunroof, trip computer, all weather. I did not drive the 1.8, but I did try the automatic and liked the stick much better.
Any particular reason why you preferred the stick? Was the accelleration differece that much more noticable? Was the 31k out the door? Thanks for the help.

i also bought my 98.5 1.8TQM at YBH. I leased and got the car at a very nice price - capped at 26,100. the sticker was 29,300. or so.
i love my 1.8 and saved the money to chip it later. a difference of 5 or 6 grand. i have no problem cruising at 50 - 100 mph. (*sometime even more) i know the chip will make my smile bigger.
good luck.
21st CDB

Jim:Call Gary Buffington @ Sunnyside, outside Cleveland - no.1 Audi salesman in North America.
If you decide on a stick, save the $$$ and get a 1.8QM. If the Tip. wins, spend the extra $4800. ($3800. 2.8 + $1025. for Tip.) - you'll be happier in the long run.
Just my $.02.
