View Full Version : Man...the A4 handling characteristics really change when you.....

I took off my Neuspeed rear sway bar temporarily until the subframe stuff gets resolved. I put my OEM toothpick reare sway bar back on. But, I kept the Neuspeed front sway bar on the car. Boy, does the handling change....I feel like I am plowing thru corners...very uncomfortable handling....I don't like it at all. I guess this is gonna necessitate me getting this issue resolved quicker.
BTW, I put the Brembo cross drilled rotors on the front of my A4 on Saturday...and after a temporary situation of pulsing brakes, I am very happy with their performance. I have driven about 250 miles sorta gingerly...not mashing the brake pedal at any time. I have to admit the cross drilled rotors sure look nice as well. They are the black painted ones that JayP also has.
Ok....what's next? Oh yeah....to install the steel braided brake lines and super blue fluid.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

Oh, sorry, that was just a latent slip of frustration from that accident. ;-)
We'll know more by Tuesday. Doesn't look too bad at night . . .
(Can you get clear brake lines and clear braiding so that the fluid shows up more ?!?)
PS: After six or seven Sam Adams, I might be able to use that sway bar . . . on myself!

They now have fluroescent brake fluid in bright green, yellow, and orange....very stylish. The see thru nature of the brake lines is because of a unique steel polymer that was just developed by NASA. Very state-of-the-art.
Honda Accord....man, thats like a Bentley to the Geo Metro I got.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
P.S. I am back in the shop on Wednesday to finally get the oil pan gasket replaced (6hrs labor?...what are they doing?...removing the engine?)
Hi Steve,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't adding a softer a-sway bar in the back make a car understeer more? If that's the case, you might want to look at reinstalling the OEM front bar as well. The worst that will happen is that you will have stock body roll characteristics!
Please, no body roll jokes! ;-)
Steve

Yup,
It's amazing what a difference the backs made. I didn't notice how much of a difference it made during a test drive after I put my originals back on. They're the sport package one's which I thought were the same as non sport package, but someone told me they're different. I haven't pushed it to any understeer yet, but I miss the stiffer rear sways.

The Neuspeed front bar is definitely inducing more understeer when combined with the non-sport stock OEM bar in the rear. I REALLY miss the Neuspeed 22mm rear bar. I am dying to get it back on...Steve M. - I don't think I can
bear going back to the stock OEM non-sport bar on the front....I just gotta get these support pieces built, or re-install the Neuspeed rear bar and put it on the soft setting for now. Anything is better than this. That is what Sharon Levy did.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
( I'm sorry if this is a total rehash )
Would sways improve handling on a already upgraded suspension ? I seem to remember a quip by Jo Hoppen regarding doing big sways with stock suspensions vs. just upgrading the shocks\springs. I haven't been troubled by excess sway ( Bilsteins / Konis / Fr. Strut Bar ), but I haven't driven an A4 with big sway bars, either.
Donnie
PS - Steve, the brakes will only get better! How's the dingleberries ??

Press Release: 10/26/98
Brembo Cross Drilled Rotors Eliminate Brake Dust Dingleberries! -
You heard it here folks. Ya know...I don't think I have dingleberries anymore...it must be the holes in the rotors. Does it look cool? YES IT DOES. And we all know looks are a very important aspect.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
I meant the Accord that my A4 was pushing . . . . . yikes!
Schaumburg tends to give Subaru loaners. A little utilitarian, but functional. Not quite the same "lookie" factor as the A4, though (oh, no, wouldn't want to be seen at the Valet Parking Service with that! Eee-gads!). ;-)
I thought that new clear brake line was made of the same new $432/molecule "Audionium" element that the bumper mounts are also made from . . . ? Only BMWerknium is more expensive!

I've read in various publications that most European tuners tune with stiffer set of shocks and springs, rather than bigger bars.
Hmm.. I wonder how the M3 is setup (compare to the rest of the 3 series).... bigger bars or stiffer suspension setup?
Mr. M3... care to comment?
Cris
I'm thinking about doing the rears for that very reason..
Donnie ( arrghh -back to work )
