I am about to advance to GO, loose over $20,000 and move from my 5KqT to a 1.8T. I would like to know opinions about the '98 versus the '99 models. I am already going to get the sunroof, so the security system is going to come with the machine. But is there a reason to wait to order, and pay premium, or do you think I should just get what is available in my area (Washington DC) in the '98 models?
thanks for the input,
Harley

I have a 98 1.8T Quattro Sport manual that I've drive for 10 months and 24k+ miles, and it is about as beautiful and perfect a vehicle as you can get. It still feels like the day I drove it off the lot. I understand '98s get bigger mirrors, though.

See what kind of deal you can get on the '98 vs. the '99. If it's not a significant discount go with the '99. Little changes from the '98. I take delivery of my '99 in a couple of weeks, there are already '99's in the states. Don't forget that the '98 has already got 1 year's depreciation so if the dealer won't work with you, you might as well go for the '99.
