yesterday I noticed I was leaking a little gas. It seems to be leaking from this fitting but it could be leaking from above, I can't tell. This is a pic from the rear passenger side. Could someone tell me what this cylinder thing is? Its right next to the gas tank.

does that mean that the filter is most likely cracked?

I think i'll bring it to my local mechanic. I don't have the time or ambition to do that today.
Thanks for your help guys.

Its a PITA, I strongly advise, that the exact tools need to be used as the tech warrants.
If u dont' have the exact tools it becomes a double PITA!!!

A word of warning, buy the filter from the dealership...the ones from napa, o'reiley (sp?) and autozone don't fit in the plastic holder.
Also, it was actually cheaper from the dealership..$19 vs $24

Its hard to tell from the pic , but the Banjo fitting looks fairly corroded and also leaking at the hose. Looks like the line may need to be replaced or at a minimum, clamped. Never had much luck in clamping those shrink type hoses.
You might as well change the filter while your there. Get some new washers/filter and see if that stops it.

Take a look at the tech section AND what I did in the link below......
I didn't even loosen the fuel tank strap....
Hope this helps.

http://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/2179079.phtml</a
