I recently ordered a 2012 3.2 Q5 Prestige edition when I couldn't find one eqiupped as I wanted locally. My dealer has said that they don't have any information on when my order will be ready stating that given it's only been a few weeks it's too early to have any information.

When an order is placed into Audi's system how long does it take for there to be an estimated delivery date?

My dealer had it right away.

I'm getting ready to order one too. I was wondering, did you have to give them a "non-refundable" deposit, when you placed the offer? Also, did the dealer give you an estimate of how long it would take to get the car? Thanks.

My dealer had the information as soon as I ordered and the deposit was refundable. The Q (at least here in the Pacific Northwest) is popular and Audi is slow to release dealer allocated units. In other words, if you put a deposit down, it gets ordered built and delivered WAY sooner than a dealer ordered unit. There is no reason a deposit should be non-refundable because the dealer will have no problem selling the Q if you decide against it.

I'm about 5 weeks into my order (ordeal) process and I was faxed a New Vehicle Inventory Listing today showing only my Commission number. My ETA to Dealer is listed as 04/16/2012. Per my sales representative the VIN number is yet unassigned from my vehicle and I've asked him I will get updates upon 1. manufacture 2. container ship departure 3. container ship arrival 4. hauler loading and 5. dealership arrival. He has yet to respond. I do have some port installed options which may be adding just a little time to the over-all delivery.

I ordered mine on 12/31, was released for production 02/02 due for arrival on 3/12.

The only difference could be that when I talked to the dealer in early December he actually put it into the system and then when I actually put the deposit down he has changed the existing order a little bit.

Non-refundable? Wow! I would never deal with a dealer who required that. I hope you put it on a credit card. If something happens and you need to get it back you'd have a chance if it's on a card.

Yes this is what did for exactly that reason. Took a gamble but other then that this dealer seems fine.
One more thing, I can still cancel this car and use the money towards another Audi I order with them, so basically I can cancel it and order a different car.

My dealer is by far the worst I've ever dealt with, but even they have a refundable deposit. Dump this dealership for obvious poor policies. If they have an issue like this, there are bound to be more down the road.

And with that, they lose any creditable justification for dictating a non-refundable deposit. Did they also sell you VIN etched glass?

Nope, but I'm sure you bought a bridge somebody was selling ....

Other then that they seem to be fine for now. Worst case scenario I lose 1000$. If I can't sleep knowing that maybe I shouldn't be buying an Audi ....

My dealer in Kelowna has been awesome.
We put down a REFUNDABLE deposit, was told approx how long it would take for car to arrive, and just yesterday, received an email saying car would be here Apri; 17 !!
This is just what we wanted, as the highways here in BC are gross with rocks and semi's throwing them in your brand new windshield and front end. We wanted to pick our car up in spring, once roads were better, as our dealer is 120 miles away.

Actually I own ocean front property in Arizona.

Some less than stellar dealers standard ops is to sell a luxury security package tacked on every car and then during nego cut it out and make it seem like you got a good deal. Dealer who takes a non-refundable deposit isn't playing above board to begin with. To each his own.

Did any of the dealer said when the order sheet will be available for a 2013 model year?

As far as non-refundable, I have never heard of that.

Out of curiosity, when did you order your car? Just wondering how long the wait is these days. Thanks

How long does it usually take for the factory to issue a VIN?

I ordered my Q5 on November 19, 2011, it was already in the production line, and it arrived on January 10, 2012 (and it was worth the wait). There are a number of threads on this topic, including some that have detailed information on how to track the car once it is assigned a VIN #, but I can't say I went to that extreme. Two monts for a car that is not yet built is probably a safe estimate, at least for us here on the East coast of the US.

Hope you get your car soon - I seem to have maybe lucked out in finding a similar car to yours but its strange because the dealers in my area told me I could no longer order 2012 Q5s - no more allocation for them for months...so I pressured them to search for a 2.0T Ibis/Cinnamon/MMI/B&O and they found one already on a boat. Strange process because I went in ready to order and wait.

I have not heard of a non-refundable deposit. I have bought two Audis from Wayne Bernstein at Desert European Motorcars, 71-387 Hwy 111, Rancho Mirage CA 92270, Phone 888-484-0466. He has treated me more than fair. By the way, he has a 3.2 Q5 Prestige Plus in Glacier White in stock and available. Tell him I said he is the best!

Ok, so it sounds like I have the worst dealer in the entire universe and screwed up big time on putting in the deposit with them. Now wonder what else will go wrong ... I guess time will tell.
If somebody interested in the dealer's name PM me.

Hi there:

I went to place an order for a 2012 Q5 3.2 Ibis White/Cinnamon with MMI+ Navi and in both Newton Audi and Audi Meadolands the deposit was non-refundable. Not sure if that it common in NJ.

So my car is on the way here, delivered at the dealer on 3/12. I'm trying to sell my other car and think I have a buyer. I will have to bridge the gap between when I sell the car and when I get the new one. I've sent an email to my dealer just asking when they think my car will arrive exactly and I explained my situation. This is part of the response:

####
As far as selling your car, if you do we will bridge the gap with a loaner vehicle to you at no charge.
####

Isn't it nice or what? I didn't even ask for that and didn't expect them to offer it.

And you are 100% right who knows how they will treat my once they get my money but to be fair they can probably sell this Q5 on the spot for better money that I'm paying them so they really didn't have to offer me anything especially that I didn't ask. I think it is very nice of them.

Im also in NJ and ill have to say a non refundable deposit if very common in Jersey. this is for audi dealerships. Let's the car you received is not exactly what you ordered, then that's the only time they can refund your the money. From what the dealers told me is deposit is to assure that you wont change your mind while waiting for the car.

The dealership i went to is actually asking me for $3000 deposit? You crazy! which i didnt agree on.
