I've been looking at an a4 now for a few days at a local dealer. (alberta)

Maybe someone can give me some insight into the price quoted, as the dealer does not leave the original Audi priceliest on the window, they have their own versions. (I don't know of ANY car dealer that I can trust.) Additionally, the salesperson was not the sharpest tool in the shed. I knew more about the car than her/him.
What I am looking at is an a4 2.8q w/ tiptronic. It has sport suspension, ski sack, and convience pkg.
After some research on this wonderful site, I know is is a 98.5 model. But I am not sure about the sport suspension. The wheels and tires are correct, but it does not have the 3-spoke steering wheel. (is it not included in the sport suspension pkg??)
Anyway, the discounted price was $44000.00 (cdn) not including gst.
The dealer seemed very anxious to unload the rest of their 98's. Maybe I could bargain with them more?
Another option is an identical 1.8tq w/tiptronic. It is $5000.00 cheaper, and was missing the sports package. Is the v6 that much better of an engine??
Last question, is the Audi cd changer worth it's $700 price tag??
Any comments/opinions are greatly appreciated.
eduardo@shaw.wave.ca
I know a couple of dealer who offered to sell me a 98 2.8 for the price of the 1.8t. So i would call them . I believe most in the norther california area. Look up the dealers in northern california and call them. Tell them you reallyy want a 1.8t. They would probably tell you they can give it to you for same price ass 2.8. Try it out. Two dealers in this are told me that but i dont remember their names.

Nidal

Hey Eddy,
After reading your post, a couple of things sound odd. First, why won't the dealer show you the MSRP list? Can't remember if my dealer had the original sticker in the window, but he did give me a MSRP list for the car as well as each option. They didn't show you that?
Also. Are you sure it has the sport package? and not just the wheels and tires? You may even be lucky if this is the case. I know you're asking why you'd be lucky paying for the sport package when all you got are the sport wheels and tires. Well, Suppose the car did have the sport package, including the wheels and suspension, it doesn't have the three spoke steering wheel, which definately came with the '98 sport package. Now ask yourself why would there be another steering wheel in place of the original one? (hint hint), better yet, ask the dealer.
*the above is only speculation on my part*
According to my price list, a car equipped such as yours has a MSRP of $44,960 Cnd. So you're getting a "big" $460 off the MSRP right now. You can go from there.
Hope this helps.
James Wu
A4 Club of Vancouver
1998 Black/Onyx 1.8tqa

A4 Club of Vancouver
