Ok looking at doing a little maintenance on the car at about 75k miles. I'm thinking I should replace the fuel filter while i'm at it. Will I need a Vag-Com for removing an error code when pulling the 20amp fuse and turing on the key to reduce the pressure?
Reason I ask is because I don't have a vag-com and doesn't seem anyone in town can clear any service stuff even for oil changes.

Although there will be a couple of DTCs when you pull the fuse and run out of gas, you don't really need VAG–COM. These DTCs will not illuminate the CEL, so there is no harm. Hope you have better luck than I did getting the hoses released from the filter.

Warning! I know it is not recommended but when I did mine I just let the car sit overnight and then replaced the filter. No problem...no fuel spray. AFAIK the filter is on the low pressure side and is only really pressurized when the system is running. Again perform at your own risk I'm just sharing my experience.
Also at 30k miles mine looked like new when I cut it open...might be that I have relatively clean gas in my area, but I'd assume you could easily go 100k+ miles given the size of the filter. Unless of course you truly suspect it is clogged.

I am at 96,000 miles and was thinking of having the fuel filter replaced. Did you replace the filter? How difficult was it?
