View Full Version : Parking brake - anything wrong?

Hi,

I've had my C7 (3,0 TFSI) for a month now. I'm really happy with it, it is a great car! However, in the last couple of days something strange has happened, twice:

While parking the car, manouvering into tight spaces, the car has on two occasions applied the parking brake itself! At least this morning, I'm sure I opened the door while manouvering into a very tight parking space. Suddenly the handbrake was on!

- Is it some kind of safety feature!? I've just spent 20 minutes going through the owners manual, but it does not mention anything about a feature like this...

Does anybody know?

Best regards,

Johan

I am almost positive someone else mentioned this on the A6 (C7) or A7 boards. I will try when I can with my new A6 - I bet this is unadvertised safety feature...

I had this happan twice myself @ car wash.
I went to open door & have them scan inside door & car stopped instinct!
Yes I'm guessing it is a safety feature but only does it with drivers door...
Or only does it @ certain speed?
My passenger opened door other day & I was driving apprx. 50 MPH & nothing!

It seems if the door is open and you release the foot brake from a stop it applies the electromechanical park brake. Presumably to protect from forgetting to put the car in park and exiting the car. Surprised me a couple times as well.

I'm looking forward to a knowledgeable reply on this. I have had the same thing several times and cant figure out if I am somehow bumping the switch when putting car in park

Yup, perfectly normal. I was the one who first mentioned about this feature a while ago.

It happens to me as well when I open the door to check the curb. But if you press on the gas, it will automatically release the brake without having to press the brake button.
