Just received word from my dealer that my build has been delayed until October because Audi has a shortage of wood trim pieces for the A6 and A7. It was originally allocated for a build this week - no joy.

I had chosen Dark Brown Walnut wood inlays - pretty much a standard option. Now I'm trying to figure out what other alternatives are available as soon as I can get a call returned from the dealer. Aluminum? No thanks...

Seriously - maybe I should join PsychDoc on his discussions. I'm totally floored at this ordering experience and the terrible communication I'm getting from Audi of America and my dealer...

Mine came with the fine grain natural wood inlays...see if you can sub for that. It looks very sharp.

That said, if it is all wood inlays, not sure what you can do. S-Line has the piano black trim similar to past titanium packages

Had the opportunity to talk to me dealer and I'm feeling better about the communication coming from them and AoA. Unfortunately - it's a supplier issue. All A6 and A7 cars that have any wood trim are being held back until October unless they were already in production status. If you go with aluminum - you're good to go. From what I understand Audi had two suppliers that provided them with wood trim. One went bankrupt, the other Audi essentially took over. Think of these companies as boutique organizations. I was told things are going to get worse before they get better.

Time to revisit my selections...

The A7's have the fine grain trim standard. The A6's are the exact opposite and they have gloss wood unless you change the wood to fine grain or brushed aluminum on the order. Welcome to the global world of parts shortages.

3/4 of the car brands are running out of materials and having shortages of everything. Dealers lots are looking like swiss cheese. The allocation came down from Audi for dealers this week, and many dealers got absolutely NO allocation to build Q5's, A6's, A7's.

So you'll be lucky to get a car in the fall if things keep going this way.

We'll all need to stop whining to get everything exactly the way you want it and you might have to make some concessions. It's just the way things are getting in the automotive world for many brands, and it's only going to get worse.

Some customers are so high maintenace and they are "floored" and "devistated" because they can't get a certain color of wood or the right wheels. You might not even be able to get a Hyundai Sonanta because of parts shortages and a lack of cars.

You are buying a 55-60k car and spending a lot of money and that's understood...but try to keep that in perspect of other global problems in the world.

Seriously? Try a $72-$90k (for an A7 which is also affected) car and if I'm going to be buying anything - it should be the way I want it regardless of price. It's why I'm a consumer and that does not qualify for a high-maintenance purely subjective comment. Does everything need to be put into the perspective of the world view? How does my ability to purchase a car the way I like it reflect on natural catastrophic events that aren't even related?

My comments about being floored were specific to the lack of communication a month after I ordered my vehicle and the resulting delay that Audi is going through because of a supplier issue specifically related to wood - a part relative to perhaps 2% the cost of the vehicle.

If I have any comments to make, participating in these forums seldom exhibit the quality of feedback and conversation I was hoping for - even more so when somebody is trying to make a point and you're unable to spell very well.

Now you understand my decision. First no backup camera, now no friggin' wood??? A website from hell and indifferent dealerships and an utter inability to deliver product to the consumer in a timely fashion. And this is purported to be a luxury car buying experience? Getting parts and quality service should be a dream. Nightmares are dreams, right? Audi is like the Inspector Clouseaux of the luxury car business -- except not as funny.

Thanks for sharing the info, I've been left in the dark with my A6. It was supposed to leave the factory on Friday but either it hasn't or they haven't updated the website. Considering the number of cars delayed for the UK, it makes sense if it's wood.

Audi UK couldn't find out why it was delayed, but thanks to the well informed people here, we have a clue.

Mind boggling that they release the car with hampered ability to deliver back up camera and wood as ordered - seems so basic to doing business. Just really odd.

I'm not quite sure, are you an actual "psych" doc or do you just need to see one?


Perhaps you should seek some counseling regarding your need to "troll" around here about a decision you made weeks ago to not pursue an Audi.



I have no problem with people voicing negative experiences but you've had no ACTUAL experiences at all. You've decided against Audi for the following reasons:

-being upset that a dealership does not have info on model that was not live yet
-a website configurator
-a wood trim finish that was shown at a demo and didnt make it to production
-a supplier shortage on a control module for a backup camera due to a natural disaster
-a supplier going out of business



Get a grip. It's fine to voice your opinion but again, you've had zero actual experiences with Audi. You voiced your opinion weeks ago. You continue to "troll" here for no reason what so ever.


Maybe some prozac or zoloft and things will look up for you? Make some friends on a bimmer forum instead of soapboxing over here?
