Getting front corner light delete, Video in motion, and convinience open of windows, sunroof with remote done whenever I find the time to go to my local audi repair shop. Any other suggestions. The car already does everything i want it to do so can't think of more.

Jose, is there a list somewhere that describes the things VAG-COM can do for a 2012 A6? I even checked the official Ross-Tech site, and they don't recognize my VIN yet.
I would love to consider some of these things, but am not going to waste money if I don't think it's worth it.

Ross Tech has nothing really updated yet for the C7 A6 or A7. I was able to use codes from the B8 A4 (http://www.audienthusiasts.com/VagCom.html) to do the gauge needle sweep, amber corner markers off, video in motion, front fog lights on with high beams and rear fog lights on with high beams. I was able to get the convenience window feature to close the windows with the lock button on the key, but there must be a new setting to get the windows to roll down with the unlock button.

Same cable!
When you get into it though you'll notice that none of the Long Code Helper bits in each controller are labelled. As long as you follow the the same adjustments that you make on the B8's, you shouldn't have a problem.

I do. VMware Fusion 3 works great. It can run a Windows OS as a whole reasonably well and, even better, it can run Windows apps from OSx off of the dock so well that they almost seem like a native application.
Unless you have one of the new i7 processor MacBook Air's, it will not be a speed demon but doing something like a VAG Mod is not terribly resource intensive anyways.

So, you disabled 2 safety features that mainly protect other people and made the fog lights useless.
Can't understand the reasoning there, but whatever pops your cork I guess. Just glad you drive in Canada...

Got the convenience windows feature working today. Once enabled you have to "turn it on" via the MMI. I remembered that from my Q5 and looked for it in the MMI once I had enabled the feature. Obviously didn't look close enough.

Under "46-Central Convenience" Byte 2 your screen should look something like this (without the labelling.) Sorry for the small image!
You need to check the boxes beside Bit 2 and Bit 3, enabling "Comfort Operation" via the remote control and Advanced Key.
Once you have done this and saved your new settings an extra menu item will show up in your car's MMI system vehicle settings. Press the CAR button and look under Car Systems>Vehicle Settings>Central locking. It defaults to all windows and sunroof "off" so you will need to change whichever windows you want to open to "on". Now a press and hold of the lock button on your key should roll all windows up and close the sunroof. A press and hold of the unlock button will open the windows and/or sunroof you have selected.

if you know how to post on this forum, you can do the mods. it is like setting up a new printer on your computer. Just follow the direction that is listed all over the internet.

You can't turn off wink with LEDs. The same row of LEDs that comprise the drl make up the yellow led turn signal. So it is not possible to have 2 sets of LEDs on at the same time in the same place

So i am new here, had a Q5 before the a6 and i felt that didnt need any mods (except for the wink)
When i turned on the a6 for the first time i had hoped that the gauges did the sweep but i guess they dont. I also want to lose the wink but was under the assumption that i had to bypass the relay or something? i guess not with the VAG mod. funny i was going to post something about these and happened on your thread
So, my main two things are Gauge sweep and to lose the wink. I live about 45 minutes away from ross tech. does anyone know if i drive up there can they program this. I dont want to spend 1,299 for just those two mods. Or is there anyone in the south jersey area that has a VAG com that can do this for me? i would be happy to pay for your time or trade for some Home audio gear :)
I dont have the LED headlamps. Just xenon with adaptive headlamps.
i suppose i could justify the 299-429 package but i dont think that works with audi's and offers the options the 1300 dollar piece does??
None the less your guy's mods are awesome. I hope i can get mine done eventually!

You can download the VCDS software directly from the site. The directions that come with it are very easy to follow. I was able to do the VIM, Gauge sweep, and a few other chnages in a matter of minutes. If you do a full "auto scan" within the software and send to ross-tech they can help tell you whats possible on your call. They are a great group.

You can have the sunroof slide. Go into 46- then 10 adaptions then find the channel for comfort opening or comfort sunroof, it's one of those, in the list of options they will be one that says tilt sunroof, whatever number that is subtract it from the value that is there now, whatever number it comes out is the new value, enter the number as the new value, test then save, sunroof should now slide open in lieu of tilting.
Example -In my car the value for tilt sunroof open. Is 8192, so I subtracted that form the value that is there now. The answer I plugged in as my new value test and save and your are good to go.

Extremely doubtful especially for the bottom line of Audi USA. They wouldn't spend money on parts and not use them. I can almost 100% guarantee you don't have them. Foot well lights though. You can turn these on as ambient. I did it on my 2010 s4. Just do a vag com search for ambient lighting

I too have tried get additional information about the Xenon coding for adaptive lights and add to fvike's request that someone owning a US prestige with bi-xenon adaptive lights please post the coding for module 55 (xenon range).
I had a conversation with the Audi engineering staff in Michigan and they stated that there are two versions of the bi-xenon lights for the US A7, one without horizontal motors and one with horizontal motors. In the past this has been the case--a check of bi-xenon lighting for earlier Audi models shows two variants with the adaptive variant costing about $400 US more that the base variant. It may well be the case that your vehicle (and mine) does not have the horizontal motors for adaptive lighting. I'm not saying this is the case, but it certainly is believable given the above comments.
The cornering lights are a separate matter. My understanding is that these light elements serve as both all-weather lights and low speed cornering lights (at least on US Prestige models). Does your vehicle have a separate switch (to the left of the main rotary switch) for all-weather lights (mine does not)? I don't know if/how the all-weather function and the cornering function are related, it may be that without the all-weather switch, harness, and correct module it is impossible to enable the low speed cornering function. As to the module itself, it is likely that the cornering lights are controlled by module 09. I have tried to enable the low speed cornering function by making select changes to module 09 coding but to date have had no success. The current VCDS documentation for module 09 is very limited.
The low-speed cornering function requires steering wheel angle, there is a place in module 17 (instruments) where you can look--in my case the documented bit indicates steering dependent adaptive lighting is installed. I am guessing that the label is not accurate, but this is another unknown at the moment. I know that steering wheel angle is input to other modules in my vehicle because it is needed for the rear-camera parking aid.
Have you had any success or gained any new information?

I meant does it label how to get the convenience feature, windows to open/close with key fob, etc working?

I have the all-weather lights button, and can turn on both lights with it. When they are on, they will dim down (on the side I'm engaging) when I use the turnsignal, and dim up again afterwards.
Even if there are two seperate bi-xenon headlamps, getting the cornering lights activated would help. If anyone have an up-to-date ETKA, they can easily see if there indeed are two different headlamps.
I found a code for the cornering lights for an B8 A4 on Audienthusiasts.com. Haven't tried it yet.
Fog Light turns on with turn signal (Curb Side Lighting)**
*Headlights must be on without Fog Lights for this to work.

For module 09 I have tried changing byte 4/bit 0 from 0 to 1 and this change has no effect on my vehicle (bit 0 is currently documented in VCDS as "fog lights as cornering lights"). However, I have found that if you change module 09/byte 4/bit 4 from 0 to 1 the Audi adaptive light sub-menu appears under the external lighting menu on the MMI. According to my owners manual, the cornering function is part of adaptive lighting. On my vehicle I find that setting the adaptive light to "on" does not enable the cornering lights or have any other effect that I can identify. Even more puzzling, if I switch the adaptive light from on to off in the MMI, it automatically resets to on in about 5 seconds. However, since you have the all-weather switch and lights working you may have a different result if you change byte4/bit 4. Please let us know what you find should you make this change.

Finally got around to VAG mods today. Added the windows open/close feature (worked first time) and the gauge sweep. I also selected the Lap Timer, but, did not find any MMI additions nor lists available... must not work on the C7. Am not sure what the 'wink' is supposed to do... Did not enable the VIM just yet.
Anyone know if there is a change to the ambient light 'colors' available? Remote start? Other cool features to enable?

I am working with some folks in a German Audi forum to get Lane Assist working. If you have adaptive cruise control installed, there's no extra hardware required, other than a different indicator stock lever.
It seems to be merely a coding thing...

To answer my own (and a couple of others') question, yes, wink can be disabled for xenons using the same coding.
I did disable wink, needle sweep, VIM, amber corner delete, windows by fob, and LEDs at 100%.
Only the LED, I think, didn't work. I only had a half hour in the dark to mess around with this.
Can anyone verify the coding for LED brightness is the same? If I recall, the byte actually referenced to turn signals.

Any issues with warranty when doing these VAG mods? Wondering if anyone talked to their service guy and what their thoughts were. VIM and Windows via FOB would be nice :)

03-09-2012, 10:11 AM
I don't think there are any issues with the warranty. It's hard to cause issues with these modifications since they are already supported by the various controllers. To refuse warranty repairs, Audi would have to prove that these modifications caused the problem.
However, the modifications are sometimes deleted when you bring the car in for service when new software is uploaded.

yes, it is the one for the turn signals, kind of complicated to explain. but that's the right one.
In other countries the Led Daytime lights dim Down to percentage that it illuminates at night when the indicators are activated.
That number or value you see is the percentage that the DRL illuminates when the park or head lights are activated, That's why its labeled as turn signals.
I believe the default for the A7 is 35%, i don't know what the default setting is for the A6. you can make it higher, but don't make it too much lower than whatever the default is for your car. trust me, i have learned alot about these cars over the year.

I posted this question over in the VAG-COM forum but maybe one of you with a VDS cable knows how I can enable the following options:
A/C: I got a loaner recently and there was a setting under Car/AC that allows to set something like soft/medium/high.
ACC: there was a setting for ACC that allows to chose between Dynamic/Standard/Comfort. I don't have that option at all and can't seem to find it in VCDS either. I found how to show the default distance in the MMI but not the other setting.

Also, does anybody have the security access code for 13-Auto Dist. Reg., I'm trying to set channel 7 to enable the other ACC options but it requires a security aces code. The current coding for 13-Auto Dist. Reg is 36 01 01 02 02. Maybe someone who has the additional ACC options enabled would not mind psoting his coding?

Strange ... I haven't tweaked anything in my car yet (haven't met anyone in the LA area with VAG-COM cable, etc., yet), but I know I have BOTH of those options available to change via 'stock' MMI settings. The A/C "intensity" settings (accessed through the "Car" menu) only can be changed while the car actually is running; it's greyed out otherwise. The ACC settings... well, I don't remember where I saw that(sorry!), but I know it's there. (Also via the "car" menu.)

OK, it seems that the ACC settings have been moved to Drive Select Individual but the A/C settings soft/medium/strong should be under Car/AC and they are not. At least my manual lists the option, so they don't have it removed. Something the dealer can look into the next time I'm there.

I believe Your vehicle may have a newer software version, and looks like some changes were made to the menus. you might have to look for that AC setting, due to the new software if may have been moved or maybe even completely removed but i doubt it, especially of you have the 4 Zone climate control system that comes standard with the prestige package.

Try this, its for an A7 prestige model with 4 zone climate (climate controls in the front and rear), if you have a prestige A6 with 4 zone this should be the right coding for give you that menu if you are missing it.
Now remember, again , since your car is newer they might have moved or completely gotten rid of that menu, again i seriously doubt it, its probably moved, so remember before you try the coding posted below, Saev yo old coding just in case.

its in 46, then go to (10) - adaptation and check in comfort opening and there is also a channel for the sunroof. I dont remember the exact setting, i will have to look at car later on, but its there and it works. I have done it.
That thread shows a picture of the Gear number display and the 2nd page has the instructions on how to do it.
Pictures below are Euro park light feature.
When you park your car at night, put the indicator stalk either to left or the right and that Corresponding side Daytime running light in park light mode (park light mode is when the led Daytime Running light is dimmed to about 25-26% when with headlights or the park lights are activated)will be activated and stay activated until you return to the car again and deactivate it by putting indicator stalk back to neutral position.
This feature is meant to illuminate you car in dark unlit areas when parked at night.
its a European Feature disabled on US Spec Vehicles, hence its called the Euro Park light feature.

However, only the front left or right lights come on. On my BMW, the front and rear lights (on whatever side I chose) comes on.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on this vag-com module thing. I've NEVER used vag-com before, is it easy? Are there instructions on how to turn each thing on or off for the A6? I don't want to screw up the car!!!!!

Just search the posts for vag-com or VCDS mods for A6 C7 or for A4 A5 or A8 and you will get plenty of hits. Not complicated at all to do. The only advice is if unsure stop and don't change it, go read about and then come back.

Alan was kind enough to do some of the mods for me yesterday. We got stumped when it came to the convenience opening. everything was input and the windows and roof close fine. all of the other commands took. Please help.
Any guidance on what can be done with the hidden menu?

I thought it might be useful to repeat a general overview with what has been written many times before for those newly embarking on making the various adjustments using Vag-Com (currently known as VCDS).
Do NOT monkey around with various settings unless you know what you're doing - leave experimentation to the experts. Follow the directions of others who have blazed a successful trail to a particular mod. It IS possible to screw up things in your car.
That said, I've been using Vag-Com on all my Audis for several years without incident (I am NOT a programmer by any means) and while It may be a bit unnerving for some at first to make changes on your $55K+ car, if you carefully follow directions of the specific mods others have done, you will be fine.
The hardest part may be forking over the $350 to Ross-Tech for the VCDS cable. The software is free but it won't help without the correct cable for your car.
Buyer beware: I would recommend you stay away from knock-off cables sold on eBay - there have been many reports of these cables not working or missing many features available in the VCDS software. For example, when I got my A6 and was ready to make the mods, I was prompted to update the cable firmware before I could use the latest software update. Junk cables will likely not be upgradeable even if they did work at one time.
Ross-Tech offers several cables depending on model and year of your car. Anyone with a 1990+ Audi or VW would need either the "HEX+CAN+USB" if your laptop has a USB port (most everyone these days) or for older laptops, the "HEX-CAN-COM" if you only have a serial port. Obviously, not all features will be available to older vehicles. (The VCDS cable from Ross-Tech has an encrypted upgradeable chip built-in. Hard to copy).
The Ross-Tech VCDS software will only work on Windows computers; it will work on Macs if VM Windows type software is loaded on the computer.
I thought it might be useful to repeat a general overview with what has been written many times before for those newly embarking on making the various adjustments using Vag-Com (currently known as VCDS).

Does anyone know if there is a vag mod to enable the all-weather/cornering lights (on the LED headlamps) to stay on when you pop on the high beams? Here in Maryland, the deer have this nasty habit of running alongside the road (and your car) then cutting across the road at the worst time possible. I had one do that tonight and I never saw him until he cut left in front of me and leapt over the hood. I was looking down the road with high beams on and never saw him but would have easily seen him there pacing me in the car with the all-weather lights on.
If there is a changeable setting, it'll probably intice me to go ahead and spend the $$ to get a unit.

Okay, was hoping for an alternating DRL/Turn Signal LED tweak, but I'm betting it isn't possible based on this:
FMVSS, Standard 108 (49 CFR 571.108), S5.5.11(a)(4)(iv)
(4) If {the DRL is} not optically combined with a turn signal lamp, {it must be} located so that the distance from its lighted edge to the optical center of the nearest turn signal lamp is not less than 100 mm, unless:

(iv) The DRL is deactivated when the turn signal or hazard warning signal lamp is activated.

Im confused, are you looking to have the LED DRL Stay lit when the Turn Signal is activated.
there are basically 2 Alternate options - by default LED DRL will deactivate when turn signal is activated on the corresponding left or right sides
1) LED DRL will stay Lit at 100% brightness when turn signals are activated
2) LED DRL will dim to a certain Percentage of brightness (i.e 35%, 50%, 75%) when turn signal is activated - however this option requires the front Marker Light to be used as A DRL - so the front marker light will stay lit all the time and be used as Daytime running light
Those are the 2 options i have come across so far

I have the full LED headlights. The LED strip under them is the DRL. When I activate the turn signal, the DRL strip turns off and the yellow turn signal blinks on and off. I was hoping to make the white LED strip come back on when the yellow turn signal strip turns off, and then white off when yellow on, alternating between yellow/white until I turn off the signal.
As it works now, when turning right, the right side LED strip goes dark and yellow flashes on/off until I turn off the turn signal.

At this point and time, that cant be done, there would have to be coding written and compiled into the Lighting module to allow the DRL to Behave in that manor, sorry bro.

I'm sorry mate, it seems we can't disable the feature. I looked everywhere for it. I think it might coding done through the LED headlights themselves and not the car CPU. Because under "fog lights installed" I have it off.
I tried a few things and they all didn't work. If anyone knows more about this please let us know. I drive out in deserted roads often and it not a bad idea to have high and fogs on at the same time.
Edit: I also want to add the fact that I think the 2012 models also have Lane departure warning. We have the camera right behind the mirror which also recognizes road signs (Only coded for Europe signs) I'll try to tinker with it next weekend.

Under 09-Cent. Elect. Byte 4, Front fogs/rear fogs lights inactive while high beam active, I took off the check mark and still no luck.
Also for the drl to stay on while the signal i working is under Byte 3 "DRL inactive with Turn Signal ("Winking") active, Again, I took it off with no luck.
My VCDS is working, so I'm not sure, maybe it's my car, or my Win8 (Which i'm having a ton of problems with) so please check guys, the usual codings worked for me fine!

If you have LED headlights, you can't have the DRL stay on while signaling - the turn signal light and DRL use the same bulb strip so the no winking option won't work. Only for non-LED headlight cars.
I haven't tried the fog active with high beams yet but the coding seems right. Anyone?

They're not the same diode that's for sure, but it's the design of the led headlight, you'd have to rewire the module so it doesn't shut off the led light.

Do VAG mods cause the dreaded TD1 warranty flag?
No, that flag is for engine tuning I think. My Tech told me the Vag mods I've done aren't interfering with anything and shouldn't be a problem, however, he did say that the Mods may get erased if an issue requires a software fix.
Also, he added that engine tuning alone isn't recommended. Bigger pulley, secondary intake and such should complement the tune. Everyday I seem to be less and less interested in increasing the power of my car.
Lastly, I think someone should start a VAG MOD LOCATION thread, so people can stop posting new topics regarding Vag mod locations. I'm not as avid as others here so I leave it to you guys.

1- Has anyone gotten the battery display to work? I can't seem to find it on the MMI; I have enabled the hidden menu and also changed the options in the green menu. No luck. The rest of the changes I made all worked.
2- Does anyone know if the 2013 with innovation has all the hardware necessary for enabling the auto high beam (I think they call it high beam assistant)? It seems it should be something that vag-com can turn on, assuming the mirror has the right controller/software. I don't know how to figure that out.

I was tooling around VCDS awhile back, looking for high beam with fogs.
Anyway, now I realized my fogs shut off automatically depending on traffic conditions. The front camera is able to recognize headlights and such.
The thing is I'm not sure if it was like this before, I don't put my fogs usually. Anyone experience this?

Hi there, I'm new to this place but I got big hope to learn and share with you guys. I own an A6 s line exclusive ( the naming might be a little different in the states since my car is in the middle east) and I just ordered my VAG cable and once it arrives I'll be doing some work.
I have a couple of questions thou:
1- many ppl in the forum wrote about activating the windows n sunroof with remote!! I had that as standard when I got my car!! The menu and function was already there.
2- I searched online about the yellow light on the side, seems its only a feature on us specs cause I don't have it on mine.
3- what is the green hidden menu??
4- where is the best place to learn how to initial VAG ( ie getting I to the system and password and all)
5- I could open my boot with the remote but can't close it, is there a code to fix that?
6- does the VAG have anything to do with performance ?
Sorry for the many questions but I guess that's the only way I learn, thanx in advance guys.
P.s. this is my everyday drive and it's a project too, I'll post a topic later to ask for suggestion on best mods and what ever you guys suggest most then I'll be adding to the car ;)

I found a very nice created map on VWVORTEX with a VAG-com locator.
Vag-Com Locator searchable map (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4991419-Vag-Com-Locator-searchable-map-style!-Owners-pm-me-your-info-requested-in-the-thread)
If you follow Seki's advice, you'll see there are over a dozen VAG-COMs in the DMV area. Three that stood out for me was one in Manassas (HEX-CAN), one in McLean (Micro-CAN), and one in Seabrook (HEX-USB+CAN). These three offered easy contact info. The different cables noted work for different cars. Read http://download.ross-tech.com/VCDS/download/VCDSCompatibilityCharts.pdf to determine what cable your car is compatible with.
Use
http://www.batchgeo.com/map/?i=e0bc1e34678c6588fe1b2a6a5944ad32&q=CITY
and replace CITY with the city you want to search. Pretty handy!

So the following are working:
Remote windows and Sunroom (tilt only)
Needle Sweep
Double beep on unlock
Brighter LED DRLs
VIM - Coding took will test tonight
Gear indicator - 2.0T CVT specific - obviously, when in "D", no gear numbers show (duh!), but when in "S" the numbers 1 - 7 show next to the "S"
I chose not to disable the seatbelt warning
BTW - in the Central Jersey area.. hit me up if you want to meet up to "vagg" yours!

Brighter LED DRLs
I'm assuming the "Brighter LED DRLs" is for adjusting brightness when headlights are on, yes? I followed the directions below for this and the option to enter a different percentage was not there (in my 2013 at least with P0566 MMI software):
[09-Cent Elect]
[Security Access - 16]
Enter security code (code 20113 was offered; seemed to take when entered)
[Adaptation - 10] Channel 3
Enter new value for LED brightness - this is where I don't see this option; there are other options for turning signals and such but nothing where I saw a place to change from default (8% or 9%?) to something else, i.e. 50%
Do I have this wrong?

That is right! The number on my car was set to 24 I believe! I changed it to 100 and saw a noticable difference in the brightness of the LED strip!

Thanks. I think I remember seeing two fields with the number 26. Do I change both of them to what I want for brightness percentage, i.e. 50?

I think there is just one field that shows the 26 in it which is the "Stored Value"
There is a feild for an "Entered Value" and "Test Value"
So the number you enter would be in the "Entered Value" field
When you hit "Test" that number would go in to the "Test Value" field
When you hit "Save" it would then become the "Stored Value"

Thanks for the info. I'll get back in there and try the change. I'm thinking 50% would be about right. From what I've read, if you go too bright, it overpowers the headlights and could be a problem for other motorists.

All,
Just purchased 2012 A6 Prestige. I tried to use VagCom to recode certain items like using remote to close/open windows and needle sweep. No luck with that (please see attached screenshots). I was able to recode to get selected Gear diplayed (S# and D#).
Am I correct that VagCom does not support these options for my particular car, at least for now?
Also, i did turn on hidden menu and turned on battery display but where would i be able to view the battery display? I did reboot the MMI.

It looks like you are on Byte 0 of both controllers in the images! I know for a fact that the needle sweep is under Byte 1. Also check other Bytes on the Cent Conv. controller for the window operation.

Well, I finally got enough courage to give VAG MOD a try on my 3 month old MY12 A6. Everything went smoothly, so thanks go to all the posters who have given instructions and tips on how to do it. I must say I thought it was going to be difficult and scary, but I took my time in reading the instructions carefully and using VCDS and Ross Tech cable proved to be quite easy.
Since my A6 already came with windows / sunroof remote and gear display D#/S# enabled (factory), all I wanted to add were:
VIM √
Needle sweep √
Hidden menu √
Start/Stop default off X
The last one is the one I haven't found info on how to do it. I am tired of having to manually turn off the feature every time I drive the vehicle. I know the new models remember the last setting, but mine does not. So, does anyone around here know where can I find the start/stop option and how to set it off by default?
Cheers,
Bill

Has anyone figured out the correct coding on the A6 for changing the comfort turn signal flasher from 3 to 4 or 5 flashes? I would like to change to 4 or 5 vs 3 flashes. This is where you tap the signal lever and the turn signal flashes 3 times. I haven't tried either of these yet.
I searched the web and came up with two possibilities:
(from the UK Audi A1 forum):
[09-Central Electronics]
[Adjustments]
Comfort Turn Signal (cycles)
Change 3 to 1 - 5; default is 3
or maybe:
[09-Central Electronics]
[10-Adaptation]
Channel 2 - change 3 to 4 or 5

My car has it under the MMI options, you can select the number of flashes from there, under car options.
I'm going to add that I'll happily host the Update for both the MMI and the Car once I get my hands on them? do I just walk into the dealership or how do I do this?

The MPG computer display in the DIS has been notoriously off in all of my Audis - usually around 10-15% too high against real world calculations by fill ups. I'm going into my Vag-Com to adjust the DIS to reflect something closer to real world after a couple more mpg calculated fill ups.
Haven't tried the coding yet on the C7 A6 but it worked fine on my B8 A4:
[17-Instruments]
[Adaptation-10]->Channel 3
Change 100 to xxx
i.e. DIS: 23 mpg; actual 20 mpg (100*23/20 = 115.0) Change to 115
(increase number to lower DIS, decrease number to raise DIS)
Anyone done this yet?

Let me add my 2cent to this subject. On my round trip to CA-VA-CA I watched closely the miles indicted to a particular destination by the NAV and what was actually measured by the trip meter and short term display. The trip meter and short term displayed matched exactly but did not match the NAV mileage. In fact the measured mileage was less then NAV mileage by about 2.5%. The NAV mileage also matched that given by google maps to the same destination following the same route. Also compared measured mileage against mileage markers along the intersate with the same results. My conclusion is the measured mileage is low by about 2.5%. I think this has been done on purpose to ensure that when the car indicates 50K miles, the end of the warranty, you would actually have traveled 51250 miles. IIRC many years ago a law suit was filed against a manufacturer for not honoring a warranty claim since the odometer indicated it was out of warranty by virtue of the mileage driven. I believe the owner was able to prove, in that case, that the actual mileage driven was less than what was indicated by the odometer.
Now I have recently changed tires frm 255/35-20 to 265/30-20 which corrects the 2.5% mileage error in the measured mileage. So for me the mileage is now correct but probably have increased the speedometer error.

They're just being anal. Ignore them. My dealer could care less (though I suppose they would be less than pleased if I asked them to fix something I screwed up myself).
I'm curious; how do they know what you've done? Do they check the popular VCDS mods to see if you've changed any?

Well, my ACC needed to be fixed (replace both radars then calibrate) and you need to do that through VCDS.
To ensure full working capability they will re-upload the entire software through VCDS to my car and I'm sure they read the errors that pop from the mods... Go see for your-self.
I mean I play it off whenever they tell me, but seriously, these mods have zero impact on their work so I'm bothered.
Maybe if they saw me trying to get lane assist working they would talk to me seriously.

The hardest part may be forking over the $350 to Ross-Tech for the VCDS cable.
True, however, it's virtually GUARANTEED that you will recoup your investment at some point when you are able to solve a problem yourself that you would otherwise have had to pay the dealer or local garage to fumble around and investigate. This is especially true as your car gets older and random, unexplainable glitches crop up in the various control modules of your car (my family is currently on its 4th Audi, so believe me when I say that weird things start to happen after a number of years).
Moreover, consider that you can have a lot of fun modding your car (thereby increasing your enjoyment of it) using the cable and that you can sell the cable on eBay and recoup part of your original investment if you ever stop driving a VAG vehicle. You can also use the cable to read OBD codes on some (but not all) other vehicles and thereby save yourself trips to Autozone or wherever you'd normally go to use a code reader. And, of course, you can help make the world a better place by helping other VAG vehicle owners who may need to read their codes or make a change, etc.
