Well, the object of my obsession since November 2011 is now sitting in my driveway (soon to be in the garage once I program the garage opener)!
I picked it up this morning at 10am. We spent an hour going through the functions at the dealer, and then I've been driving it around town since then. Just got home and am loading up an SD card to fill the Jukebox full of music. Then, back into the cockpit to customize all the audio stations and playlists!
I am ecstatic. I ordered Dakota Gray with Black Interior. Prestige with 18" Sport and Side Assist. Got $1200 off MSRP, which was fair. I'll try to post some pics in the next week or so. Feel free to ask me any questions. I'll do my best to answer.
Some comments about the car, with regards to the multiple debates and questions online. Granted, I am completely biased as of today.
Dakota Gray is a NICE color. Really has a metallic look that changes depending on lighting. Sometimes, it looks gray. Sometimes I can see a little beige. In general, I would describe the color as PEWTER. Light gray/silver with a little color in it.
18" sport wheels look awesome! The 18" is so snug, I don't see why the 19" or 20" wheels would be needed, especially considering the significant added cost of replacement. Actually, there doesn't seem to be enough room to accommodate them! I like the rim design best of all those available, and have the added bonus of an all-season tire.
I did get the free LED headlamps. Buy now and save $1700!!!
As a 1st time MMI user, very intuitive. It will be no problem picking up the tricks. It seems that audio from different sources is treated differently by the car. As an example, you can only scroll album art from music loaded on the Jukebox. Kind of silly to differentiate, but it may have to do with speed. I think the 20gb in the Jukebox will be okay for me anyway.

My thoughts exactly! The 18" definitely have a slightly noticeable higher sidewall - but the wheel design is better. (Don't get me wrong - they're not great - but better than the alternatives OEM).

Congratulations. So awesome that you have it and are driving it. You probably have the first one that has been sold/delivered to a customer in the states.
Love your package selections and I also have the 18" sport package ordered. Really liked the wheels and did not want to have to swap tires 2x a year (even though I know it is the best thing to do). Also cool that you got the LED lights for free.
Please take a picture of them on at night. It does not get dark enough during dealership hours for me to see how they light up the road compared to Xenons.
Post pics when you can and congratulations again. We are all jealous! The car just looks so awesome when it is moving.

Congrats mate, I too love the rim design which is why I went for them too though in Europe we get the option of 19" with this design as well which was what I ordered. You said free LED lights, did you mean full LED lights or just part LED?
Anyway like the rest I look forward to some pics.

Full LED. Looks like this will be a free option on the launch variants here in the USA.

Just to elaborate on this, if you order your car now or even a few weeks ago, you will not get free LED's if you order your Prestige w/o Innovation and LED pkgs.
A7 Prestige "launch" vehicles came with free LED's, if you did not get Innovation or LED pkgs. This appears to only have been for orders of the very first allocations of A7's. The sticker on these cars had "CORPORATE $0" on them. This free LED headlight thing was completely unadvertised. Just a special config. A7 Prestige's that have been showing up at dealers recently (~3-4 weeks after the very first A7's) no longer have the free LED's, they have the Xenons, as advertised.
This is likely the very same case with the A6.
So if you ordered during the first allocation month (meaning the first month where A6 orders could move from IS Order Bank to Factory Order Bank) or you buy one of your dealer's first allocations off the lot, you will get the free lights, otherwise, you will not.

no free LEDs. Audi caught the mistake and REinvoiced all dealers with a new invoice and window sticker. They even tried to get my dealer to charge a customer who was taking delivery that night. They refused and had to eat it for now. The deal was already done, they weren't going to go back to the customer and say, oh by the way, it's another $1500 now because we forgot to put it on the sticker that was on the car you just bought. Not good PR for Audi.

Just off the phone with the dealer, looks like the car's been sidelined at the factory until the 22nd July. A parts shortage (not likely to be the reverse camera chip, it's something else) affecting 40 cars for the UK (15 A6's and 25 A7's).
Earliest we can expect it is 2nd week of August.
Ah well. C'est la vie.

This is one of those cars that is going to swallow wheels. I think 20's are going to be the right size for this car. 18's look silly, 19's are passable - 20's will be perfect.

I just took delivery of my A6, premium plus, cold weather, side assist. While it's a gorgeous car inside and out (moonlight blue metallic and velvet beige), I think that the standard 18" rims don't fill out the wheel wells quite right. It may be due to not having the sport package, which I understand would lower the ride height by 10mm, and would probably make the car look and handle better.
Don't get me wrong, the A6 handles just fine for everyday driving but is definitely not what I would call sporty.
So...is there a way to modify the stock suspension to lower the ride height and improve handling?

Teddyoh - how is the ride quality of the 18" sports package? I am trying to decide how to equip my new A6 and while I love the handling and look of the 19" sports package wheels, in extended test drives of a 19" sports package demo, the ride was a bit too rough to my liking over roads that were not in perfect condition (which is often the case in Baltimore-DC area). Do you find that the 18s strike the ride balance between handling and ride quality?

I didn't get a chance to drive the 19's. But the 18 with the sport package was the perfect balance of ride comfort and handling I believe the tires were Continental all season. The 19's looks better and came with Pirelli PZero summer tires which I image provide plenty of grip but with a ride penalty that most people aren't going to find appealing in a large luxury sedan.

Only if you live in Europe. No one knows why Audi held back these options for the U.S. market and no one knows if or when they (and other missing options) will be available here. Any reviews you've read or seen that feature these options were about European-spec vehicles.

My road to getting the 2012 A6 was rather twisted and torturous. I originally ordered the car with the cold weather package but without the sport package, but when I read the great reviews about the car, it seemed that almost everyone had tested it with one of the sport packages. I tried to find one with both cold weather (a necessity with kids sitting in the back) and sport, but none were readily available. Since my wife would be the primary driver, and she didn't want to wait, I settled for the car without the sport. Also, I got a very good deal on a non-sport model, so that swayed me. Unfortunately, during all this time I was not actually able to test drive any version of the car before I ordered it! :(
Anyway, the non-sport model's ride and handling are extremely appealing, if a little lacking in the sportiness area. I have put the car into dynamic mode and have driven it in sport mode, which helps firm things up a bit. It actually corners fairly nicely and flatly, although it feels a little wobbly when exiting turns. (Maybe it's because I am unfairly comparing it to my BMW 335d RWD with sport package.) As it is, I feel that the non-sport model is very game up to about 8/10 or 9/10, but doesn't quite have the chops to be thrown around like my BMW. So I can't help wondering if the sport package would make it that much better. I know that Edmunds tested it with a sport package and came up with some pretty strong skidpad and slalom numbers, which I doubt I could match in the non-sport package car.
So...does anyone who has test-driven the A6 with and without the sport package have an opinion on how much of a difference the sport package makes? Thanks!

Ditto here. Drove the 19" sport package in the A7, but not A6. I am very happy with the balance of ride and performance in the 18" sport package. Plus, I prefer the rims.
Yes, they are Continental tires. I'll upgrade at 40k and get some nicer all-seasons.

Everyone who I have spoke with that wasn't impressed with the A6/7 B&O system all made the same comment ...... lack of bass. Having owned and run a car audio shop many years ago I was familiar with this statement from unhappy customers who bought the best of equipment but were not impressed by the results.
If this is your gripe then may I suggest sticking with it because in time you will come to realise that what you and believing to be lack of bass is in fact a very well controlled bass which has none of the boom associated with lesser systems, also there will be a running in period where the speakers will losen some what and mellow slightly. Otherwise I found the system though make much than I would willing pay to be excellent in it's positioning, balance and clarity. If it had been half it's price in the UK and more in line with what Jaguar charge for their B&W system in the XJ then I would have jumped at it but at £6K it's too expensive for me to consider knowing what can be achieved in the aftermarket side of things.

Is that Moonlight Blue Metallic? If so, that's awesome.
Modern vehicle design says larger wheels and lower stance are preferrable but it's really a subjective thing. If you like the way the car rides and looks, then be happy with your great new ride no matter what anyone else says.

well said. Functionally speaking this probably sets up for better ride comfort and snow traction and all around daily usability. Yes, it does not have the sex appeal or wide stance as the 19"s or 20", but will last longer and cost less to replace. Just matters what you value more, looks or functionality.

Hey, thanks for the great and thoughtful comments. I guess I'm being nitpicky about the wheels. The ride is extremely smooth and strikes a good balance between control and comfort. Also, from what I've read and heard so far, the new A6 is not the ultimate sport sedan even with the sports package, nor is it really designed to be. And it's true that low-profile tires/large rims/sports suspensions bring their own set of issues and headaches that I'm sure I'll be glad not to have...
Oh, and yes, it is Moonlight Blue Metallic (and Velvet Beige leather), which is a truly awesome color...it glows a subtle dark blue in the sun and then goes almost completely black at night. My pics don't really do it justice.

Moonlight/beige was the other color combo I was considering, but the dealer had one in havanna and so far I LOVE the color...

I think you can't go wrong with any of the A6 colors. Audi does an amazing paint job with all of them, really. And funny how you mention that you picked your color because it was available and you didn't want to wait. The Moonlight Blue/Velvet Beige color combo was available at my dealership at the time I was looking; ading a sport package would've required them to place a new order, which meant another 2 months at least - and I just couldn't wait! In the end, I'm extremely pleased with this car, and I'm glad I didn't order the sport package.

Let me know what everyone thinks. Please answer honestly. Thanks!
Honest opinion? I think the car would look better if the wheels filled out the wheel wells a bit more. And I am not a fan of over-sized wheels and tires on a car. That said, the car still looks amazing. Wheels and tires are an easy fix if you decide you want to move up in size down the road. If you like the ride and are happy with its looks, you're all good.
I ordered a Moonlight Blue A4 sedan a few weeks ago, so I love seeing new pics of the color online (I have only seen it in person once). Looks great. I ordered mine with black leather seats, as I don't care for the beige offered on the A4 (Cardamom). If "Velvet Beige" were an option on the A4, I would have gone for it. Classy combo.
Congrats on the new ride. Hope you remain happy with it and post more pics!

Here's another pic of my Moonlight Blue Metallic A6 w/o sport pkg, and pics of other A6's w/18" sport pkg that were at my dealership, for comparison. I have to say that visually, the 18" sport package doesn't look any different than stock. Guess you gotta move up to bigger rims and summer tires to get that real sporty look. I think I'll wait to do that when Audi comes out with the adaptive suspension option on these cars (why they didn't bring that option to the US is beyond me!), since I've heard that the bigger wheels and low profile tires result in a harsh ride.

It depends on your definition of harsh ride. Audi omitted a lot of the European specs for this car as most of us are aware. The only reason I can think of is that due to the weak dollar, the car is already expensive and doing so makes it that much less attainable. Since people here in the US don't order cars, they have to package them in a way that balances cost and profitability.

Yup, I believe they are part of the 20" sport package. They are summer performance tires.
