View Full Version : Do other people notice your S4?
Muray 05-29-2011, 05:16 AM Instead of it's just another garden variety A4? I have had people who I thought wouldn't know the difference between A4 and S4 come over and make a compliment. This goes from kids young enough too be in grade school to retired people. I've caught numerous people admiring the car when it's parked or stopped at a light. It seems that the "S" brand has a more mystique than "M" or "AMG". M and AMG are a dime a dozen in my area. S's are still a rare breed. Considering how understated an S4 is, I am surprised how many people are aware of what it is. I don't know a cool story about people noticing my S4, but may be you do. Did your S4 ever:
a) got you out of trouble
b) got you special treatment
c) got you laid
d) etc?
Curious to know.
Eggplant Wizard 05-29-2011, 05:44 AM I've gotten stopped a few times ... by the police.
But seriously, I've been stopped in parking lots a few times and asked about it, but only by Audi people that knew what it was and were considering buying one for themselves. It doesn't seem to get any attention from the general public.
sf_loft 05-29-2011, 08:23 AM I just get a thumbs up by people crossing the street when my car is up against the crosswalk. They look at the LEDs and love it. Audi owners know.
Was in Yosemite national park last month and while I was taking pictures of the waterfall, 4 German guys were vacationing and one said to the group "das ist ein S vier". They stared at it and talked about it in German for 5 minutes. I was taking pictures next to them and they didn't know I was the owner. I dont speak German, but s vier kept coming up.
westwest888 05-29-2011, 08:35 AM I feel like it gets an unusual amount of attention. I've even seen construction workers stare at it.
My car is Brilliant red, so it definitely gets noticed. Some BMW owners think it is an A4. Some semi knowledgeable think it is a V8 or turbo charged(I don't have any side emblems). But I have received a few long stares . In fact , last week I was driving in an urban area and was following a Quartz gray S5. Middle aged African American women with a female teenager were pointing at it and seemed excited to see the S5 as it went by. I was driving with my windows open. A I went by I heard her exclaim, "There goes a Red one!" Well, sort of!
UmIsThisThingOn 05-29-2011, 09:09 AM ... I dont speak German, but s vier kept coming up.
'That is an S four'.
My lowly, dirty A4 got the fuzzy eyeball by someone at the bank on Friday.
I was in line and could see the car parked out front. A guy left the bank, looked at the front, then slowly walked up the side and looked at the rear (prob to see the model designation - but it's shaved).
BaLLZDeePNYC 05-29-2011, 09:35 AM Not too much attention but enough for me to think I am gonna shave the emblem off the back this week... If I ever want to put it back Ill plastidip the chrome black and leave the red but I feel if people think its an A4 ill be left alone lol
bimmers2 05-29-2011, 10:34 AM you got a nice car! (about 5 times in streets or gas stations)
that's a bad ass, i know. (company security)
is that your audi? i wish i can get one. very nice car! (mall and supermarket parking)
what a beautiful car you got! (lady driving MB)
* Also found, on freeways, some drivers (on Lexus, BMW, Acura, Honda, Infiniti) moving around s4 probably trying to get complete views in motion of my s4.
* Stopped (my retired B8/A4) by Police once, because of "corning too fast." But he walked around the new car and seemed chatting about "this new car" with 2 other officers for 3 min before he let me go with a verbal warning.
skiracerblah 05-29-2011, 11:47 AM I do, i get 335i's always trying to race me down the highway.
Goony 05-29-2011, 12:10 PM Kinda tough to lay low with Imola Yellow.
I do, i get 335i's always trying to race me down the highway.
And watch out for a chipped 335i. They have the chip for a reason and generally looking for an excuse to use it.
pyramid 05-29-2011, 03:01 PM I had a carload of teens give me thumbs up at a light when I was on the test drive. We had just done an "acceleration test" and apparently they saw the car in action and were impressed.
I've also had a few of my BMW owning neighbors giving it looks as I went by and waved.
I get no attention! lol! well, not really 'no' attention, but no regular attention haha.
I got 3 of my neighbors who complimented on my car, but other than that, just 3 guys circling my car and checkin it out when it was parked at downtown... and they rushed away when I showed up lol!
rktskicar 05-29-2011, 04:28 PM A few times... Most people frankly don't know what an S4 is. I think I have gotten the most compliments on the DRL's and the color of the car with the wheels. I had one guy ask me "how do you like the turbo?".
Of course, some of my coworkers who have driven my car know what an S4 is and have given me many compliments.

small peni$? LOL
drrick89 05-29-2011, 05:38 PM Meteor Gray Audi S4 Prestige stands out; thanks to the 19" tri-spokes, LEDs lights, chrome mirrors, supercharged badges, low riding, double dual tail-pipes, S4 badges
Evlengr 05-29-2011, 06:09 PM My whole attraction to the vehicle come from the understated strength. Reminds me of prowling tiger or the martial arts I study. Nothing to prove but there when you need it.
LeoR604 05-29-2011, 06:47 PM My whole attraction to the vehicle come from the understated strength.
+1.
I'm not looking for attention or to be challenged at every stoplight. I bought the S4 for ME and that's the only opinion I care about. And, hey, after 1 month of ownership my opinion of the S4 is pretty f'in good :D
audi_noob 05-29-2011, 07:03 PM I have been asked about my car while waiting at a traffic light... Get quite a few thumbs up, but mostly by audi drivers in S4's or RS4's. Seems like most people dont know what a S4 is (esp. the poor sap in the 328i), they just stare at the LEDs
fasttoys 05-29-2011, 09:29 PM It’s strange mine gets more looks than my M5 and M3 did. I don’t understand it; it could be that I live in Dallas. In Dallas you see BMW autos on every street corner. I call the owners the 30 thousand dollar millionaires with maxed out credit cards.
maybe for five people commented;
1.) An Audi A4 owner at work liked it.
2.) An Audi A5 owner at work liked it.
3.) A few people at work asking about what model it was. Liked the looks.
4.) One Neighbor commented nice car.
5.) One mechanic at an Audi shop commented he liked the looks of it.
MalSer 05-30-2011, 05:43 AM I've been approached multiple times and it always makes me smile.
* Had it only 2-3 days and stopped at Chevron station to fill up and get something to drink. 3 guys at the register just stood there and stared then one said what a a beautiful ride it was.
* While leaving the vet an older gentleman driving a Merc CLS asked if he could check int out in detail. He was looking for something sporty with better gas mileage.
* I was parking outside Reliant Stadium to walk to the Houston rodeo and the man parked next to me wante to check it out. His son drives a B6 S4.
* Leaving a club at 1:30 AM and as the valet (whom I know and trust) pulled my car up a Sheriff came over to check it out and asked me how I liked it. No, I hadn't been drinking LOL!
* They guy that runs the company that does my yard said it's his dream car. :) I wanted to take him for a ride but he was REALLY dirty... :)
I smile every time I get behind the wheel but little instances like these always put a little extra sparkle in my eyes.

I make it a point not to look at the Bimmers... Don't see too many S4's in Dallas but there are a few. I see more S5's actually.
Cooper993 05-30-2011, 05:54 AM A few people (usually at work) have said, "oh that's a nice A4". When I explain that it's the sport version and rather different, they don't get it.
Even my neighbor that has a 2.0T Q5 said "I have the same engine in my Q5 as the S4, right?"
I laughed and said "no"
drrick89 05-30-2011, 06:10 AM I make it a point not to look at the Bimmers... Don't see too many S4's in Dallas but there are a few. I see more S5's actually.
I look at Bimmers all the time - though usually it's while I'm passing them... ;)
BMWs are nice German sedans - just as Mercedes are. I respect them and their drivers.
Audis are different. I *love* Audis!
In fact, I wave everytime I see one! :)

Not sure if it counts, but while we were talking in palo alto, two little girls said to her mom, "don't hit this nice car" while pushing the shopping cart. Their mom said I know it's a nice car...smiled at us and said my husband would love one of those.
skiracerblah 05-30-2011, 09:21 AM I also get a lot less attention in this car compared to the Evo's i had in the past. I have more peace of mind parking this car in a lot compared to my Evo's which attracted a lot of attention.
dgoesch 05-30-2011, 10:14 AM I have a Sprint Blue '10. I get compliments on the color from people who don't know cars all of the time. I've had people take pictures of my car in traffic on their camera phone (It was pretty close to the release of the car to market). From people who know what car it is, they are usually trying to race me, or I get a thumbs up.

I actually like BMW's better than Mercedes. But that is just me. ;) We have owned both of them...

MadMadS4 05-30-2011, 11:55 AM Every time I go to pick up kids at the elementary school, the 8-10 year old boys just go nuts over my car. They point out the school windows, wave, say "whoa" and generally stare at my car.

That's likely because you have the best color (Sprint Blue) ;)
Bruce
rktskicar 05-30-2011, 05:09 PM there is really not that much difference between an A4 and an S4 externally. It is just like the the B5 S4, pretty stealthy IMO... An enthusiast would know the difference, but your average Joe will not. ;)

We?
rktskicar 05-30-2011, 05:37 PM We?
Me and my wife, = "we". Actually she has had a BMW and a Merc. I enjoyed driving the BMW. I tend to run Audis and such.

tph1207 05-30-2011, 06:15 PM Well today, I was pulled over by a Mississippi State patrol because he stated he "wanted to make sure that my temporary tags were on the up and up and not printed off of the internet". Funny thing is, he was parked on the side of the freeway and I was not even speeding when he decided to pull out. MUst have liked the car enough to come chase me down. As he walked up, he sure was checking out the new ride. After a few minutes of chit chat, he told me to drive safely and had a nice day. Kinda made my day!
mark_nimda 05-31-2011, 05:15 AM I find that people who know cars well notice the S4 and begin conversation about it. For instance, my S4 is normally in the garage but was in the driveway when my UPS truck guy comes by and he aks, "Hey, when did you get the S4? I've heard that thig is badazz." So we talk a a good 5 mins about it.
Then, as I was leaving work and getting into the S4, 2 guys walk by and oen says "Nice car man. Ever had it on the track?"
mobyrz 05-31-2011, 07:07 AM Only when driving past an Audi dealer :P
In downtown BOS, M's, AMG's, S/RS's don't seem to get a second glance...especially since every MB, Lexus and Chrysler now sports LED's.
That's fine by me...wife and I love this car.
ZCD2.7T 06-01-2011, 04:24 AM My S4 gets more attention than any car I've ever owned, and it's all positive.
The most common comment is something like "THAT's a BEAUTIFUL car!"
Everyone knows that it's something special, even if they don't really know what an S4 is.
It's kinda fun, actually! :-)
RedMagma2011S4 06-01-2011, 05:27 AM I was accosted the other day by some "kids" who asked if they could take some pictures when I stopped at a Wawa to get coffee. Dudes even wanted to get inside. I said pics fine, but its locked and I am in a hurry....
My neighbor has said "beautiful car" at least ten times. I have to go through a guard shack stop at work and they always look the car up and down and smile. I had an A5 owner stop me for a roll down your window chat, etc. I'd say a bit of attention. :-)
81bear 06-01-2011, 05:29 AM My car gets noticed all the time! Just today when I pulled in to my local Starbucks to get a coffee there were two guys in their 40's deep in conversation on the patio just in front of where I parked. I got my lazy @ss out of my car and when into the Starbucks. After about 5 minutes I got my coffee walked outside and noticed the conversation had changed totally to cars, specifically Audi's! I smirked, jumped into my car, and watched them watch me pull out of the parking lot.
medimike1 06-01-2011, 04:15 PM Kinda tough to lay low with Imola Yellow.
Agreed. I've had my Imola Yellow-Ti for just under two weeks, and have gotten at least one thumbs up, wave, or similar every day.
bateman 06-02-2011, 07:13 PM Not close to what I got with my Cayman S, but I do get quite a few looks. While driving I can tell many are just checking out the LED. Still, it's actually more than I had expected as I believe it is very under stated beauty - and as many others here I bought the car for my own driving pleasure, not so much to be gawked at. But it's nice when the right ones are gawking ;)
helix139 06-03-2011, 04:49 AM My Sepang + Ti turns quite a few heads. I catch people in other cars turning to watch it all the time.

Ya i noticed a ton of people checking out the LED's while i'm driving. They look like deer staring at the headlights when i see them.
bbmaster 06-03-2011, 05:48 AM Most people just know it's an Audi and don't know what S4 is. It's a sleeper car that blends into the crowd, which is perfectly fine with me.
LeadToRome 06-03-2011, 06:17 AM Went to a luncheon at the Hay-Adams Hotel in D.C.(arguably the best place in town, just across Lafayette Park from the White House, we could see the snipers on the WH roof looking up at us) on Tuesday and the valet asked if it was okay if he parked it out front. Then he said "beautiful car" and a second later "beautiful interior, too". (DSB with 35% Huper Optik tint, black with brown interior with carbon fiber trim, perfectly sparkling clean [thanks Zaino!] and sharp-looking that day. So for almost 3 hours the car sat in solitary splendor directly in front of the front door of the classiest place in town. Best thing - no charge! Kinda made my day.
truep287 06-03-2011, 06:51 PM Several compliments but the best came from two different AMG owners!
