View Full Version : Test drove/pulled the trigger...
AudiR8A7 05-22-2011, 06:37 PM Hi all!
I test drove the a7 last week and fell in love.
Put an order in and it is currently being built. Not gonna lie, I am super impatient waiting for it.
We ended up going with Phantom Black on Black. Got it fully loaded with the exception of the B&O sound system.
I must say the Bose was plenty enough for me...the B&O just didn't do much for me.
Husband has an R8, will post pics soon in the R8 section.
b45H1r 05-22-2011, 06:56 PM Congrats,
My wife also test drove then ordered an A7. We were told it would be about 3 months, but I have a feeling it will be closer to 4 or 5 months. We still don't have a a build date or production number.
AudiR8A7 05-22-2011, 07:53 PM Oh God. I reaaaaaallly hope that won't be the case. I'm calling the dealer tomorrow to find out if we got a production number yet...we'll see. Fingers crossed.
bentaudio 05-23-2011, 08:19 PM Hello!
Like you my wife and I recently test drove an A7 and also have fallen in love. Very nice car and we drove the A8 right after the A7- it was no comparison and we both preferred the A7 hands down. So much better connected to the road and the A7 still has a surprisingly nice ride quality.
You mention the "B&O just didn't do much for me". I am trying to choose options now and I am wondering if you got the hear the A7 B&O system? I design and sell hifi electronics so I am a bit of a nut for sound and therefore tempted to go that way but would really like to hear from someone who has heard the Bose compared to the B&O in the A7. Any feedback would be most appreciated.
Thansk!

Congratulation on your A7!
Never think about European Delivery for your A7? Amazing experience!

We are talking about a subjective experience here, so take this with a grain of salt as we are all calibrated differently.
First, take the sound signal. There is a famous saying - garbage in, garbage out. If you listen mostly to xm radio, the signal is not very good, so IMO, the B&O is not justified. If you listen to quality recorded CD's, the B&O may be justified. You will have to listen for yourself to decide.
But even if you listen to well recorded music and if you are going fast or if there is a lot of road noise, the B&O may not be worth it.
So try it for yourself with the CD's and XM radio stations that you frequently listen to.

Congrats!
Any word from the dealer? The only thing I am aware of that may be holding things up is the availability of rear cameras due to the Japanese disaster.

Thanks for the notes. Bang on when it comes to the source material. At home I listen to open reel 2nd generation dubs of studio master tapes. Can't beat that as a source but it would be a bit tricky to lash that into a car..... My dealer is not likely to have an A7 B&O to listen to but I think I will give it a try. I have customers with phono cartridges that cost more than the B&O system and so in home hifi audio terms it is not as crazy a price as it would seem to 'normal people'. When it arrives (some time off like the others who recently factory ordered...) I will post a detailed comparison of some kind between the Bose and the B&O using the same source material. I think it would be of use to others trying to decide but not having the opportunity to compare directly.
Thansk!

See if your dealer will have an A8 with the B&O then, if you are seriously interested. Some of the internal reflections due to interior designs of the A7 and A8 cars may be different, but you will should a taste of the sonic differences between the Bose and the B&O.
And again, will the sonic difference be worth the money if the car is on the road, vs. being parked in a quiet dealer show room.
I am sure you will be able to buy a lot of good music for the money saved on B&O, if it doesn't work out. Good Luck.

Hi! I'm glad to hear you liked the A7 better. Husband was trying to talk me into the A8 but I decided against it because I really liked that the A7 was "luxury" and "sporty" in one. That's not to say I won't be drooling over the S8 when it arrives :)
He is really big into sound quality and would always choose a B&O over a boise but when we heard the B&O---something was missing. I can't put my finger on it but when we heard it we knew it wasn't worth the extra 6k.

Yep, got the production number but I'm not too sure where to go from here or what else to ask the dealer so that I could get more info.
Is there any way to track the production of the car with the production #?
I am incredibly impatient...especially because it's summer and I would love to drive around in it :D

Perhaps in the future but we got a good deal so I have to stick to waiting it out :(
lexusluver 05-24-2011, 06:36 PM Do you mind posting the terms of your deal??

Sure! We are leasing...
1,2000$ monthly for 36 months 15k miles per year.
I got the car fully loaded with the exception of B&O.
We checked out other dealerships and this was the best deal out of them all.
AudiR8A7 05-24-2011, 07:07 PM Sorry! I meant 1,200.
If there is anymore info you'd like, let me know :o)

I understand your impatience. Many people are in your shoes. I would love to driving one too instead of looking at pictures. But on the other hand, anticipation and imagination are somewhat fun also. My guess would be to contact your dealer first. If you hit a dead end, try Audi of America.
But, I am not the best source for this information. You may want to start a new thread on this, as someone else who may have the knowledge about this will be able to readily see this thread and chime in.
Good Luck
AudiR8A7 06-06-2011, 12:20 PM Got some info from my dealer today---
The car is currently in production and should be leaving Germany on July 6th and coming into the port right at the end of July so I should have the car right around the 1st week of August.
I feel much better knowing the car is in production!

my wife's car should be here at the end of july. they're probably shipmates.
AudiR8A7 06-06-2011, 06:06 PM You're probably right about that! Ours is shipping into NJ. I'll have to find out if they're buddies when she gets here ;)

Very cool!
My understanding is that a lot of the ordered Audis are being built this week.
