My 08 Avant tailgate does not seem to raise up completely when opened, and this sometimes means I get brained when I walk into it. Very painful. Is there a fix that I might do for this? It does not appear that the struts are weak and it's electric, so it should extend completely without a problem.

Manually push the tailgate up to desired hight. Then push and hold the button on the tailgate for 10 seconds or so.

That sucks LOL. If my car would hit me in a similar fashion, I would hit it right back! And then take it to a dealer if it was really malfunctioning.

In cold weather, mine doesn't open as high. It may take you a few times to set the height.

this fix did not seem to raise the height. I may need to dealer it, although I can't stand dealerships.

I'm having the same problem right now. Sometimes it doesn't open all the way, and 90% it shuts with a loud thunk where as it should shut softly.
Dealer has already replaced the tailgate shocks and lubed all the parts but the issue persists. Tomorrow I'm taking it back for a 3rd time, they are supposed to replace the shocks again and call Audi Techline to see if they can find a solution.
My car is under CPO warranty BTW.
Did you guys ever get this resolved. Threads like this are useless if you don't come back and report a fix.

Dealer replaces the shocks and the motors again but it didn't solve the issue.
Ultimately someone from Audi Tech visited the dealership to see that car and said this was normal behavior and that was that. I still don't believe this is how it should work, but the dealership will not do anything else for me.

I tried the fixes suggested but to no avail. It's cold weather that causes the worst of the problem.
