Was over visiting friends in The Netherlands and got to take an A7 3.0 TDI out for short test drive. Talk about one sweet ride... I wish AoA would consider bringing this variant of the A7 to the US. I'd trade my S5 in a heart beat.

Agreed. Would absolutely love the 3.0L TDI that is in my Q7 in the A7 as well... But eagerly awaiting driving the A7 here in a couple of weeks while wating for my order to arrive.

Hi,
So would you consider the A7 without the diesel engine? How nimble is the A7 compared to the S5?

And what is it about the diesel engines anyways? When I walk past a buss or drive past a truck, I plug up my nose or put the air circulation on recycle.

Thanks

Obviously you have not been in a modern diesel recently, they are quiet and don't smell. The A7 3.0TDI has 370 ft-lbs of torque, good for 0-60 in under 6 sec. and nearly 40 mpg on the highway.

No point in comparing handling characterics of the S5 and A7... 2 very different cars for different purposes, so my expectations from a handling perspective weren't high. Although the car drove/handled better than my previous A6.

Given the mileage I drive, a diesel would make more sense for fuel economy while giving plenty of lower end torque off the line (fun factor). Besides, other than on the track where in the US can you legally drive these cars as they were intended? Sadly we don't have an autobahn...

Actually, the single turbo diesel 3L V6 in the A7 produces 369 lbs-ft of torque, NOT 370 lbs-ft of torque.

Yes I know, I was just rounding it off. But you do know that it's just a conversion from the metric rating of 500 Nm, which itself is a ballpark figure. Engine horsepower and torque output just don't have that kind of precision or accuracy. A +/-5% tolerance is probably pretty typical.
