I just got my '06 A4 last week and I can't wait to change a few things about my car. I've already ordered the projection lights w/LED DRL and I plan on installing an HID kit in there. I also want to change my wiring so that my fog lights can come on without my headlights being on. The more I read about installing these items I keep hearing about this VAG COM thing. What in the hell is this?? Do I have to buy this tool/program to do anything on this car or is it just with the electrical stuff?
I have done this with my Scion tC and it was kinda easy, and there were no extra tools involved. I understand the difference between the 2 cars but, is this a case of German over-engineering? :D
Thanks for any help!

VAG-COM is what you need to program things into your ECU, you can buy a full version from Ross-Tech.com for around $250, or you can pick up a generic cable on eBay for about $20 that lets you do most of what you will need.
