View Full Version : NA A6 won't have s-tronic joseaudi 02-22-2011, 11:03 PM Sucks! Coming from 2010 s4 will feel like a slush box. Hope these specs change upon actual arival . This according to fortitude article. Gear Junky 02-23-2011, 01:00 PM Sorry mate but you are getting the automatic, no S-tronic for you. That being said the ZF 8sp auto is excellent, very smooth, very quick to shift with the paddles and seldom in the wrong gear. Try it before dismissing it. Juaser 02-23-2011, 06:57 PM If the US A4/S4 trim setup has anything to say about it, we'll probably get S-Tronic in the S6. Im more bothered about the no air suspension option. I have it in my current A6 and was really looking forward to feeling out the new one as it apparently has been completely redesigned. joseaudi 02-23-2011, 10:24 PM S6 won't matter to me since my lease is up in sept. Need A6 then. Plus recently got a speeding ticket in S4 and am over s cars for now. Too easy to speed so over them for now (if you can believe that). Too much power makes me do stupid things. I have 2 young kids so not worth it anymore...... Untill the new 911 comes out! Juaser 02-24-2011, 06:34 AM I hear you. I'd just avoid it based on the running costs of that kind of car. Plus, paying over 70k to get S-tronic just doesn’t seem like good value for money. That being said, all I know about the upcoming S6 it is the engine source and its output. These S cars and above are designed to blast on the Autobahn. If you don’t have the option of doing over 100 MPH as part of your daily commute; then the premium associated with getting into this strata of car has diminished returns, in my opinion. Love the cars though. Sometimes that’s just enough to push one over the edge to pay that premium. If they had the S-tronic option on the 3.0T in the states I would just MTM the motor and get some bigger brakes. That'd be fine for me. Love the color on your S4; love your car in general :) Gear Junky 02-24-2011, 06:49 AM The S-tronic is better than the ZF 8sp auto only when using the paddles to shift yourself but when left in drive it's the auto which kicks down multiple gears quicker than the S-tronic does and is still a bit smoother in traffic as well. Dual Clutch is the latest buzz word at the moment and everyone wants it but when it's dead and buried it will be the automatic that will still be around, but not before the manual also gets kicked into touch. Kris Hansen 02-25-2011, 12:57 PM Hard to say. I drove the S-tronic, then came back to the states to an A8 with the 8 speed Tip, and quite honestly, there isn't all that much of a difference. If anything, the Tip should get off the line better. Kris Hansen 02-25-2011, 12:59 PM I don't even know about that.. That 8 speed is pretty fast. =) joseaudi 02-26-2011, 10:51 PM So it seems like both transmissions drive similar, but still wish s tronic was an option. I actually use auto mode most of the time anyway. Still fun to quick shift with paddles though with s tronic. Exclusivity and the feeling of having an s car is good, but way too easy to get in trouble with them! derick 03-07-2011, 11:19 AM Anyone know if either the C7 A6 or the C7 S6 will be available with a real manual? Thank you. Gear Junky 03-08-2011, 03:08 AM Anyone know if either the C7 A6 or the C7 S6 will be available with a real manual? Thank you. NO the S6 won't be offered in manual form, there is no reason why the 2.0TFSI won't be offered as a manual but that's not to say they will. |
