View Full Version : *$$#@ Wife rubbed the new 17"s against curb!!! Doug H 10-20-1998, 07:24 AM Scratched about 1/2 way around. Any suggestions on mitigating the damage (to my wheel, not my marriage). Steve S. 10-20-1998, 07:43 AM I got some wet dry sandpaper...400 or 600 and sanded the damage down....use higher grit paper if you have significant damage. Then use to 400 paper to make it smooth. This is not a quick fix...it will take you awhile to fix this so it looks decent (not good...I said decent). Then I got the Krylon #1401 spray paint from my local autoparts store and did about 8 -10 coats of paint. Then I put 3-4 coats of clearcoat on top.
Then I used rubbing compound to make it smooth. As you can tell, this took awhile. I have repaired two wheels so far, and have two to go. BTW, I have 7 R-28 wheels. Four on the car (undamaged) and three blemished ones that I have repaired...still looking for another to fix up.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
P.S. The other option is to take it to one of those wheel repair shops (see the back of C&D or Road & Track magazines) and pay $150-200 to repair the wheel.
inaki 10-20-1998, 08:54 AM I belive the WURTH lacquer spray silver is the OEM stuff that these wheels are painted with. I use it on some Porsche wheels, and it looks great.
#892181 Silver Lacquer 13.5 oz.
http://www.wurthusa.com/
Inaki |
