So was this car simply loaded up with extra batteries for the journey, or was it something that's functional and could actually be sold to the public?

there has been talk of a recent break through in Lithium battery density. these guys have working prototypes with 3x the density of current cells. that would make for 250 -300 mile range cars at least.

Audi is getting a new A1 founded A2 for next year.This illustration shows us what it could look like.The previous A2 from a couple of years before, was a pretty expensive vehicle to produce.Basing the new one on the A1 will make it much more affordable.
