I just finished waxing "our" A4 for the first time after a year and 2 months of ownership!!!
Let me tell you I love our black car and will NEVER buy another one ever again. That color is very difficult to wax!! This is our first black car. All our other Audi, VW, and BMW have been red with the exception of our 88 Audi 90 (charcoal-it was not that bad as the black A4). Man, I spent the entire afternoon detailing this sucker so we can drive to Dallas tomorrow (we are going to our first Bull Terrier Club of Dallas meeting, wheeee!). Well, my point was just to express my frustration of owning a black car, but once it is clean it is soooooo Elegant!!
Oscar,
97.5 1.8TQM waxed for the first time

My previous car (1996 Nissan Maxima SE) was black. Black looks awesome when it is clean, but it shows dust and dirt more than most other colors. Worse still, it shows scratches (even miniscule ones) more than any other color!
I definitely would not recommend anyone getting a black car unless they have a garage to park it in. Furthermore, I would hesitate to recommend a black car as a daily driver, unless you are willing to take good care of it (or unless you just don't care).
Tom Halter
98.5 2.8 QM Pearl/Onyx

I've learned quite a bit about car care since getting my black 98.5 A4. It's an uphill battle. No matter how carefull I am, I still get some light scratches. It's currently outside, car port full of stuff for my girfriends store (her car port). I have to wash it every week just to get leaf deposits off the paint. I'm very close to getting a Porter Cable Buffer.
I'm thinking about trying the Meguiar's Gold Class wax for my black A4. I currently use #7 or 3M Imperial Hand Glaze and follow up with #26. I don't mind waxing but the polish step is alot of extra work. Is the Gold Class a good compromise for black A4? Is the Medallion Wax really any better? The Medallion is $20 and is also a combo polish/wax. I'll probably still do the two step process occasionally.
Mark (98.5 2.8 QMS)
