Hello All-
I am about to take delivery on a 2011 A4 Sedan, this will be our 3rd Audi. I notice the recommended oil change interval is 10K after the 5K maintenance.

My experience and practice has been to change the oil at 5K intervals with synthetic oil for both the 1.8T and the 2.0T. I also used to follow the 3K oil change guideline for previous vehicles. My guiding philosophy has been oil changes are cheap maintenance. We also keep our cars for awhile- typically trading at about 150,000 miles.

For those of you who have had experience with the B8, what has been your experience with oil change frequency and what would you recommend. I am prepared to become 'enlightened' and influenced to longer oil change intervals if it makes sense.

Thanks!

I am happy to hear that your previous Audis have made it fine to 150k+. I plan on keeping mine for a long time as well, and am changing my oil every 5k miles despite Audi's 10k OCI recommendation. I have AudiCare so I only have to change the oil myself every 10k at the moment.

Long story short...

I've spoken to the service manager and a couple of the "master" mechanics... they all said do it at 8000km (5000miles). They told me it's an ongoing battle between engineering and marketing depts (since people don't like to bring in cars for service).

I do mine every 8000km.

I think it simply depends on the kind of driving you do. If you do mostly city driving, I wouldn't go past 5K. If you mostly cruise on highways, you can probably easily go to 10K, maybe even more given the very long 8th gear in the 2011 tip.

I have a 1.8T (B5.5 Passat, manual) with 193K on it, and after the warranty period, I started doing oil changes between 7K and 8K, occasionally pushing to 9K. I do a lot of highway driving, but my engine turns around 3350RPM at 80mph and has its oil capacity is only 4qts. The 2.0T takes 5qts (if I am not mistaken) and I know that the engine turns a lot slower when cruising at 70-80mph, so it should be easier on the oil.

I'm another 5k'er. For my upcoming 15k change I'm going for an oil analysis. Lotsa city driving so I'm pretty sure that 10k would be stretching it out a little too much...
