I can't wait to configure my car. I will have to decide if I want the long wheel base again or not. There probably won't be much of a cost differential by the time one is done with similar configs.

FWIW, I test drove the Panamera and it ain't fer me! Not after the plushness of my Audi.

Interesting that the Jaguar XJ now offers a package to bring their short wheel base up to the level of their long wheel base. Just one check-mark! Price difference at MSRP is abut 3K them them. But again, after driving my '06, the new XJ just can't measure up. Even for 10K less.

Yeah, I've got until December/January before I have to order a replacement for my '08 D3. Right now, I'm undecided between the A8 LWB or NWB, Panamara S4, or the upcoming A7. Like the interior of the Panamara and like the exterior until the eye goes to that darn c-pillar and rear end. Will have to test drive it alongside the A8 this fall. The A7 concept vehicle looked great inside and out, but probable scale-backs in the production version may be problematic for me---will have to wait and see until the Fall reveal.

My real problem with the A8L will be if it will fit on the hydaulic lift in my NYC garage---the current D3 just fits with a small extra margin at the end of the platform, and the D4's extra 1.9 inches in wheelbase length could present a fitment issue. This could disqualify the A8 from my consideration, since I think the A8L is visually better IMO than the NWB model, and I like to have my car up on a lift and away from harm in the garage during the week when it's not being used. Oh, these "uptown problems" will drive me nuts over the next 6-months. ;^)

I was looking at the P4, not the 4S. When I configured the V6 P4 with full leather and all it came to almost 100K. The 4S was about 112K. That was really more than I am willing to spend.
The interior of the P4 looked and smelled great with full leather and 14-way seats, but there were a few troublesome things. First of all there was no place to rest one's elbows while driving. I could get used to the tight seats (or might have to stop working out!), but they are no where near the plushness I have become accostomered to. Also the idea of no spare tire and no run-flats was problematic for me. They give tire goop, a compressor and a phone number!
The A7 looks interesting, but I was told there is no release date yet...probaby mid-2011. Even tho I own my '06, that is just too long to wait.
I was toying with the idea of a Fisker Karma, but I guess I am not that brave...and they are pre-sold until February or March!
The Maser is just too expensive at about 140K configured.
I will have to test drive the 2011 S550, but they are just so common (who would have thought that would ever be the case!).
The Bimmer, even though it is getting better each year, still does not compare on the inside. It is more reminisccent of the Lexus-class than the Audi/Mercedes.
Oh well....just have to wait..
