2002 A4 1.8t Quattro. Check engine light on, RPMs will occasionally drop to 0 and kick on the EPC light. Reading diag code P0322.

Did my homework and assumed it was the crankshaft position sensor. Received the part in the mail yesterday. Didn't have time to install, but disconnected the sensor at the firewall and connected the new one. Started up car and both Check Enging and EPC were still on.

Will installing the sensor down by the oil filter make a difference? Do I need to reset the codes? Start fishing for the problem elsewhere?

Thanks in advance.

I'm having a similar problem, about to buy the same sensor. I can answer you one thing though, the check engine light won't go off instantly once the problem is fixed.

I know this is an old thread, but for the new guys looking for info on what seems to be a common problem, YES you have to install the sensor and it goes next to the oil filter. I have a 2001 A4 Avant and one of the first things I had to do was this. And only 60K miles. Easiest way was removing the oil filter.

BTW, You'll pay $50 at Bap Geon. Everywhere else I looked for, it was at least $20 more expensive.
