I know for earlier models, remote range was a problem. It seems, even w/my 99', that I have to be real close to the car in order for the remote to work! Anybody else w/99's notice this? I'm planning on going to my dealership today to have a few other things addressed and figured maybe I'd have this one looked into as well. Thanks in advance for any info! =)
JT 99' 1.8Tqms

I have to be within 10 feet or so of the car or it doesn't work. The dealer told me the Panic feature was handy in case I couldn't locate my car in a parking lot. I'm not sure I could depend on it to locate the car in my own 1-car garage.
With mine, if I approach the car from behind, it has a reasonably good range (more than 50 feet), maybe better from the driver's side.
If I come from the front (especially from the passenger side, unless I'm imagining things), the range is around 10 feet.
I think this is consistent with the receiver antenna being located in the rear bumper.
Andrei D
98.5 1.8T QMS

The remote on my 99 1.8 works from at least 40 yards away, and the panic feature works as advertised. If you need extra range, try holding the top of your remote to your chin when you use it.
