I have a 2006 A6 4.2 that had its MMI software upgraded to 46.1.0 0805 recently. I just noticed that changes to the inside temp from either side no longer display on the MMI screen nor do the setup options appear.

Is this how the new version behaves?

You may need to go back to the dealer and ask them to perform "Front display control head adaptation"

Check all MMI display to see any thing missing after the update so they can perform all the adaptation to bring them back.

It sounds like an error in installation. Just bring the car back to the dealer and have them correct it.

Did you do the MMI update or the dealer? I just did mine and there were a few that did not install the first time and I had to install a second time to get all of the updates. I think the climate control settings were the ones that were missing until the second update.

Yah same thing just happened to me when the dealer updated the MMI. I'm going in tomorrow to have them make it come back!

So I'm getting ready to do my MMI upgrade too. I will do it myself though. Should I find myself in the same place as the OP, how would one remedy the situation without going to the dealers? What all is involved in this "Front display control head adaptation"? Do they just run the Upgrade disk again? Or is it some setting in the VagCom settings?

Same exact thing happened to me when the dealer upgraded my MMI. Took it in the next day and they fixed it. Not sure if they re-installed it from scratch or were able to apply a patch to fix.

I have exactly the same issue after having the MMI upgraded, except the service advisor at my dealer is telling me that disabling the climate control is part of the MMI update....which is quite obviously bull****!

I would also like to know what is involved in the "Front display control head adaptation", just so I can go and tell them what to do. These idiots can't seem to be able to figure it out themselves!

related question: After the MMI upgrade, I am missing a few menu items- 'Instrument Cluster' or something like that where I could set 'max speed'; can't take it back to the dealer since its been a while since they upgraded etc. How do I get this back using VAG? (Steps?).

Excellent piece of information OTL,
it's obvious many service shops don't know about "Front display control head adaptation" fix and I'm sure many are quite MMI illiterate other then pushing in the disks when there's an install problem/issue....any help with how we can reference this in the manual. web page, PDF, TSB etc would be more then helpful. Thanks

Update: I did find a reference TSB 2017424/3 regarding the control head adaptation.

I want to see a friend of mine who is an Audi/VW mechanic today.

He didn't have time to play around with me but he did give me his cable (Ross-Tech) and laptop. Took me w while to figure it out but I was able to fix it.

Once you're all connected with VCDS go into [07] - Control Head Front, and then click on Adaptation. Then select Channel 11.

According to the Ross-Tech the setting for Channel 11 are as follows:

Channel 011: Additional MMI Options
+00001 = Owners Manual available
+00004 = Frequency/Source Change via Function Button active
+00016 = Driver Information System (DIS) installed
+00032 = Climate Control Comfort available
+00064 = Auxiliary Heating available
+00256 = AUX-IN installed

The initial value in Channel 11 for me was 4, adding 32 makes the new value 36. Therefore I replaced 4 with the new value 36, clicked Test, then Save.

I then turned off the car, and started it again, but to my disappointment this still didn't bring back the Climate control settings. My buddy suggested I reset the MMI, which can be done my pressing SETUP, BIG KNOB and top right soft button together.

Once I reset the MMI the Climate control settings were back!! :)

In summary:
- Go to [07] - Control Head Front
- Go to Channel 11
- Add 32 to existing value
- Test and save
- Reset MMI by pressing SETUP, BIG KNOB and top right soft button together.

Thanks for posting. My display also went away when I did the MMI update. After I noticed this change, I thought it was just part of the update to remove the climate control display from the MMI screen. Will try this weekend.

Climate screen is now back. Followed the directions above except for one minor change. In reviewing the TSBs in the Bentley Repair Manual, I found that you can also reset the MMI while you are still in the Adaptation under the Engine Module. So, here are the directions with the other MMI reset option and some other added notes:

- Go to [07] - Control Head Front (in the Engine Module)
- Go to Channel 11
- Add +32 to existing value (VAG–COM provides a pop–up with the options)
- Test and save
- Reset MMI by:
a) Pressing SETUP, BIG KNOB and top right soft button together; or
b) Enter 111 to access Adaptation channel 111, enter 1, accept and save the value. Note: You'll see ERROR message in the field after you do this you save it, but you may ignore the message.

Any way to do this without the special connections? I'm 250 miles from an Audi dealer.

No, you need a VAG scan tool (i.e, VAG–COM, VAS 5052, etc.) to reset the the MMI so the climate control screen is shown.

I see those on ebay but do I need software for that too?

lol. I wish mine would have the climate control temp would disappear. It is kind of redundant that the screen displays the temperature as well as the ventilation display when i adjust the diffusers.

True, but I cannot see the setup parts either.

You can eliminate the climate control screen by subtracting the value ID'd in the measuring block (i.e., -32), and re–entering that value.

Most of those VAG adapters on eBay are cheaply made (i.e., Chinese) copies of the Ross Tech adapters. You will still need the VAG–COM software, which is downloaded from their website. The cheap adapaters may or may not work, but the only way to ensure you have a fully compliant working system is to purchase the adapter from Ross Tech, and then download the appropriate software version. If you plan on doing your own maintenance or repairs for your Audi, then you should invest in VAG–COM with a Ross Tech adapter.

Question: does the newest MMI update include some of the cool pop-up/picture-on-picture display features found in the 3G MMI? For example, on the new MMI system, when you're adjusting climate the whole screen doesn't change to climate control, but rather a little pop-up appears in the corner and then fades away.

Unfortunately no, I have the latest version and the whole screen still changes.

How come in VCDS I cannot access channel 11? It's disabled?

Update: After you perform the MMI update and follow the directions here to restore the Climate Control Settings, you may notice that the settings are not shown correctly, i.e., driver's controls are ID'd as Passenger, and passenger controls are ID'd as Driver. I noticed this problem this past weekend, and discovered that TSB #2017424/3 addresses the problem. To implement this TSB, you will need to take your car to the dealer because it requires the VAS 5051/5052 scan tool to correctly adapt the front control head. The problem is that the MMI update and the follow-on task to add +32 value to Channel 11 in the control head module makes the MMI think the car is a right-hand drive. I had my local Audi dealer correct this today with the total cost being one hour labor.
