All,

I'm new to posting to the forum, but read loads of comments on ED and perhaps this question was already answered.

Is it possible to negotiate a price for a car, then get the additional 5% off from Audi's ED program or are we pretty much stuck with MSRP less 5%.

If it depends on the region, then I would be working with a dealer in New England (Mass, NH or RI). Car is most likely an A5.

Thanks!

Neil F,
this question was asking many times and no one get straight answer. I even ask owner of this web site to use his Audi contact to straight out this for us.
But from all I read here - get your best deal and then ask for 5% ED discount. Some dealer will tell you - you can get the same car straight from the lot for the same money - this is true also.
But, believe me, experience what you get, when you pick up you car in Germany, drive your car on autobahn at 130+ mph legally - this is unforgettable. After our first ED, my wife (not me) ask - when we get back again. She really don't care what car - BMW, AUDI or MBZ - she just like all process of ED in Europe (+ shopping there :( ).

Good Luck!

I recently purchased a ED Q5. According to my dealer, there is no negotiations--just the flat 5% off. In some cases, you may be able to negotiate a better deal. In my case, as the Q5 is in high demand here in California, there are no negotiations on these cars off the lot. So the ED is a price saver. I would, however, echo the previous post, the european driving experience is priceless.

Thanks for these helpful comments. (I've also since found some answers on the FAQ thread).

Anyway, I couldn't agree more about the experience being priceless. Wife and I were in the process of planning a trip for our 20th anniversary (sans kids) to Italy and I thought, hey, it'd be pretty cool to pick up a new car, drive over the alps to Italy and have some fun. Was a pretty easy sell when I showed her some photos of the car and the countryside. (Funny how life is, back when we were newlyweds, we'd only be concerned about sun tan lotion and a "clothing optional" beach!)

Our only issue is what to do at drop-off -- drive back to Germany or have the car driven back from Italy.

It's all depend how many days you plan for your ED.
I give example and you can play with dates and how long stay in each place.
Day1 - Fly in to Munich. Stay in Munich 1st day.
Day2 - AUDI pick up you and your wife and drive you AUDI forum. Pick up your car, go to AUDI museum and factory tour. Draw back to Munich.
Day3 - Munich -Innsbruck-Lake Como
Day5 -Lake Como-Milan-Venice
Day7-Venice-Bologna (Ferrari factory near by)-Florence
Day9-Florence Sienna-Vine of Tuscany-Florence
Day10-Florence -Lucca-Pisa-Sinque Tierra (Rapallo)
Day12-Rapallo_Monaco-Nice
Drop off in Nice
Fly home
I strongly recommend you to do not drive your car to Rome - take a train. Or get hotel outside of town with secure garage, left your car there and get local transportation (bus, metro, taxi) to Rome center.

Map for european real system:
first digit: price in Euro for 2nd class ticket
second digit : time in hr

ED goes through different channels than regular car. You ar eworking with Audi USA, not your dealer. The prices are pretty much set in stone. You can try to negotiate with the dealer for some of the fees or whatever. But like many people said - experience is priceless. And if all you get is 5% so what.

I talked with several dealer and the answer was always the same MSRP-5% max .One of them said ,on the S4 at his dealership it's MSRP-3%.
Remember the rebate % is the max but every dealer can decide the amount % they give you .
also some dealer are not interested to do ED.
I had the choice of 2 dealer close by.
One of them ,the sale associate was nice but knew nothing about ED ,I quiz him several time ,he was going back an forth to ask question to an other associate ,I knew more then him.
So ,I went to the one with more knowledge about European delivery .
Also ,you want to stay local juste when your car is coming back ,you want to be there to do a good reception .

My dealer initially only wanted to do 3% on S4 but I got them to 5% eventually.

That's bad. :(

Originally me and a friend were going through the ED together and we were going to use the weight of 2 simultanous purchases to try and get a better deal. Now that my friend bailed on that plan, I guess I'll have to feel lucky getting 5% off MSRP. :-\

The 5% (or 3% for A3s) off MSRP is the recommended discount published by AoA. The final price is negotiated between you and your dealer. The dealer still has to pay invoice for the car but also gets incentives for participating in ED. How much of a profit they make on the sale is up to them (and you). Since you can pretty much get the 5% off from any dealership, I think your best bet is to get a couple dealerships to compete on the price and/or add ons.

Also, because of my screwed up ED, I've had a couple dealerships look to see if they can expedite my re-order. They are trying to change existing factory orders which have not gone into production to match my specs. I told them the one that can get my car into production soonest will get the sale. It should save at least a month off a brand new order.

Yeah, I remember reading something like that (on the dealer's ED guide?) and I was planning on contacting 3 or 4 dealers to see if I could get a better deal. In fact, I believe the dealer's ED guide also say dealers pay invoice - 3% MSRP plus incentives (~ MSRP - 8% plus incentives) for the car so in theory there's room for negotiation.

That's the theory though. So far I have never heard of anybody getting better than 5% off MSRP.

I was re readind the 2010 dealer resource guide tonight and notice on the page 4 ,all of the cars now are 3% of MSRP less destination charge .except the A3 1%
Price was revised 01/10 .
I bought mine 12/31/09 and got 5%
I am going to see my SA tomorrow ,I will ask .

I think you're mixing up the customer discount, which is still at 5% of MSRP (3% off for the A3), which is listed on page 3 of the dealer resource guide, with the dealer "ED incentive" discount, which is 3% of MSRP less Destination charge (page 4).

In fact, the text above that table in page 4 reads: "The dealer will also receive a program incentive based on model.".
