I need advice on which kit to purchase: the Wett 235hp kit which includes a filter, larger turbo and chip ($2495) or the MTM 240hp kit through Hoppen which includes stainless 70mm exhaust, modified cat, ported exhaust manifold, KKK K04 turbo, fuel regulator, intercooler hose upgrade, and chip ($5900). I haven't been able to find a dyno for the MTM chip, and am wondering if all the extra hardware and more than twice the price results in significantly greater response even though the power rating is about he same. Anyone have any experience with this?
TIA for cluing me in.

Have you thought about the Neuspeed kit? I bought a K04 turbocharger on my own and upgraded to the Neuspeed K04 chip. The car is now a real screamer. The kit is sold through greedspeed for around $1,450.
Ali
98.5 1.8T
K04.......

The MTM package from Hoppen is probably the best and safest setup on the market, but I will agree it is very overpriced. Trying to negotiate better pricing is always an acceptable method with these tuners. bid one against the other. if they tell you to stick it return the favor.
After dealing and seeing the performance and problems created by the all the different tuners, I am still convinced tehHoppen setup is the better of the lot.

I'll check it out. Have you driven any other chipped 1.8t's to compare your setup?

I have had my TAP chip for almost 2 years, and read this board alot. The only problems I have seen have almost always been on the A4's side not the chips side. Parts breaking and bad hoses and bad sensors have accounted for almost all the so called problems. I am sure that Audi does not give Hoppen any secret chip tuning info. This stuff is not brain surgery, any one can tune a chip. It's nice hoppen worked for Audi in the past and I think they are very good but a chip is a chip is a chip, and Hoppen does not have any, better ability than any of the other well known tuners!

who installed kit for you and how much did it cost(for the installation) were you chipped before the ko4 conversion and how does it compare now?

I won't mention any names here, but I'm currently working on fabricating a new hood design to vent heat from the engine compartment in a 1.8T with a 220+ hp kit from a popular tuner. The hood should be fabricated and installed in January or February of 1999, and I'll post pictures when it's completed.
Cameron
I installed the turbo myself. It cost me about $59 for the gaskets, 3 turbo to catalytic studs, and 5 quarts of Mobil 1. I had the NS 12psi chip before and differece is like night and day.
Lemme just say this. Our kit includes alot more than any other kit out there and that is for safety reasons. The price is not outrageous. The competitions kit includes a chip and a turbo for $2395 or something, Hoppens includes a chip, turbo, exhaust manifold(exchange), catalytic convertor, flex down pipe, and full stianless steel exhaust plus spark plugs, intercooler hoses, and fuel pressure regulator for $5950. Minimum Hp is 240. And you need all of these parts to run 240hp safely. And as far as what tuner is better, im not going to say this one or that one, its up to what the buyer decides and tuner himself feels is adequate when modifying the car, the decision is yours to make.

I really surprised the stock injectors can flow enough for almost 100 more HP than stock. I guess if your not at boost too often its not a problem..but I would be worried about an injector sticking.
Does anyone know what injectors are used in the S4 and what will be used in the upcoming 220 TT?
