Default CC Channel 51 - Engine coolant temp. Under what conditions does it read accurately?

The climate control unit displays the engine coolant temp on channel 51.
Just wondering because if I have the blower fan off, the max displayed temp never exceeds 71 deg. C. It appears that it works best during the winter when the CC is set on heat and blower fan at higher speed. I tend to trust the CC more than the "sedated" gauge in the instrument cluster.

BTW, which is the sensor that reads the displayed coolant temp?

Default Review the post linked inside and tell me what you think the answer is.

There are three water temp senders. Only one goes to the gauge.

Ok, that is very informative but does not answer tha main question:

Default Your question "BTW, which is the sensor that reads the displayed coolant temp?"

THe link I gave you answers that question.

The Channel 51 question/answer requires that the heater be on, i.e. so hot coolant is going past the CC coolant temp sensor in the plastic T running behind (but not attached to) the head.

Well, I should have said in my original post that a couple days ago, with the A/c on, CC set on LO and fan speed on full, the CC displayed 88 deg C, which seems strange, doesn't it?
Do you think the sensor is toast then?

See I was right it's in the crack pipe. Dude a new sensor is less than $20 just replace it and the crack pipe if need be.
