Getting our 2009 Prestige serviced today for 5K
Service manager found brand new campaign is active - 91E6
Apparently a major set of SW upgrades to address multiple MMI issues including dark screen faults, etc.
He said it is numerous pages of instructions - it is taking them several hours on this item alone

Thought this group might be interested...

Just came out 2 days ago (or very recently)

Thanks. That's interesting. Any way to get a list/summary of the updates?

To answer the previous questions - i don't have the specific list of updates, but per the service adviser they were on the phone with AoA to clarify the procedures for the campaign, and there were 3 items that they needed to address (not clear if this is all 91E6 or separate things):

1) Software upgrade for 3G MMI which addresses many of the peformance issues including dark screen/dead MMIs on startup (I had this once, but it fixed itself). They did not mention any Nav db upgrade so I think this is separate and did not happen

2) Software upgrade for the Engine Control unit - unclear what this fixed, though I really do think the car is less "jerky" after restarting from a slow stop

3) They replaced 2 of the rear bulbs from 5W to 3W on some reports of overheating with the larger bulbs

My Location is San Francisco Bay Area. Dealer was Rector Audi in Burlingame.

I'm sure someone here has access to the Audi campaign database and can provide more detailed info...

I think Database POI update is totally different update and vendor. Update mention above done by audi's software engineers, were navigation update should be done by company outsourced for Audi navigation design and implementation.
For example - NAVTEQ DVD upgrade for 2009 Q7 link (http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/Navteq-NavteqNorthAmerica-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewStandardCatalog-Browse?CatalogCategoryID=bpwKCghBVnsAAAEiAfoJ8S1_&ShowAllProducts=YES&PersistNavigationMenu=YES)

I was driving back from Minneapolis to WI yesterday and my engine light came om,

I called International Autos and told them I was coming straight in and to do my 5K oil change at the same time, I drove 200 miles with the light on but got there and I waited 4 1/2 hours for them to do the car,

they changed the oil, the problem was a sensor that detected an engine surge and then they told me there a brand new software update to cure the fault and also to update MMI, that download alone took nearly 2 hours,

it is also supposed to cure the problem with the MMI going blank,

so be prepared to wait awhile unless you can leave the car,

also all the presets for radio disappeared and Nav went back to default although previous destinations were still there, haven't had chance today to look into anything else, if I find anything else I'll post it.

FYI, I have 5800 miles since May.

Thanks!!! Isn't Navteq in Garmin units as well? I really wish they would do a major databse update. I would pay a $400 for it if a great update was available.

I set up the appointment for our Audi to get the 5K service done. It's next Saturday. I asked the service guy on the phone if there was a software update available... testing his knowledge.... he said "uhhh I don't know" like I was the one that was stupid for asking. That irritated me. I hope they allot enough time for our car to do the update at the same time.

Do we have to initiate the request for the update or should the service dept do it automatically when we bring the cars in?

We had a 2009 Murano LE we sold to get the Audi....

I looked on Navteqs website because someone mentioned earlier that Navteq only responds to what the Carmakers want, as far as quality of database goes.

The 2009 Nissan Murano has 10.4 million POI's .... ..... guess how much the Audi has..... 1.4 million..... YES I did say one point four million.

A $50k car has 10% of the POI's in it's navigation compared to a car $17K cheaper. That is crazy.

The Audi is still A LOT more fun than the Murano though. I was just suprised by the huge difference in the POI's... I do know our Murano had a 40GB hard drive.... I think it was 40GB? Do we have a HDD in our Audi's (prestige)?

A few things I have noticed now driving it a bit more since the update:

1) The voice prompts for navigation are now much more audible, even at low "voice prompt" volume setting levels in the settings for the Radio section

2) *most interesting* (maybe) - there is now a "customer update" option (at the very bottom) of the settings page on the Navigation section. If you select it, it then asks how you want to update: USB, DVD, SD 1, SD 2. Did we have this before? I can't remember...If not, then this could clearly be the path to the much desired POI/Navigation database upgrade that has been implemented which would allow this to be done without having to go to a dealer

We'll see

Hi,
I just had my hitch installed and asked them (dealer)about a software update but hadn't seen this post with the campaign number and they said there wasn't one yet. I mentioned it because the blutooth/phone ringer volume drives me crazy. I read somewhere that an update seperates the ringer and phone volume. Anyway, I will now have to approach the dealer with this update number. Thanks for the info.

Yes, the "Customer Update" option has been on mine since day one.

Before I went to MN last week my MMI would not turn on so I rang the Audi dealer to tell them about it and he said to bring it in, I told him that it had come back on so he told me not to bother because unless it was still out they could'nt fault find the problem, so I said what about the new software update?

his response was - there ain't one!

service did acutally come out and tell me that the car would take longer due to a brand new update, I did not ask about it because I was told there was not one yet,

so I would ask if I was you,

I believe there is a software update available, but many cars came from the factory with the latest software. I purchased my vehicle in March 09 and was told this week that my car already has the software versions listed in the warranty update. Thus, no update required for my vehicle.

We bought ours in May 2009. How do I find out if I already have the update?

When you bring it in for your next service, they will check the service bulletin against your current version. If you don't want to wait for your next service, a service advisor would probably do it while you waited.

Can anyone confirm that the phone ringer volume issue is fixed in this campaign? I just had our Q5 in the shop for this campaign. There is no separate volume control after the update. I read through the 38 page update procedure at the dealer. It only mentioned the 3 items that SMCA previously posted.

The other possibility is that they didn't actually do the update on ours. Our current firmware is "HNav_US_K0110_1_D1". I didn't check it previously, so I don't know if it changed. The only other post that mentions the phone volume fix and the firmware revision is a European ("EU") firmware version. It's possible that the phone volume fix isn't available in the US yet.

Please post your experiences regarding this.

I was at my dealer about 3 weeks ago for service and was told there was no update when I asked in regards to the HORRIBLE Nav database. I was told to call Navteq. Whatever. Anyway, my pre-updated Nav version is "HNav_US_P0108_D1", if that helps any.

I think the update came out 2 weeks ago. You may want to check with them again. I'm not sure if they updated the NAV.

Just had the update, 91E6, completed this past Friday. As a result, the FM and AM station list was depoplated. Discovered the FM stations were missing on Saturday when trying to find a football game. As I plodded my way through the scanning and attempting to bring the stations back, the radio/electronics slowly started filling in the station on the screen. At first, only one station, then as the next thirty minutes or so passed, many more stations were listed. AM was auto populating the station list also. Finally, I could select stations on the screen and the sound was there.
Otherwise, the dealer ship gave no warning as to what would happen to the MMI, or electronics, no info on what the electronic upgrad was for. No info on what difference we would see in visual or use of the nav/radio.
Seems like Audi would supply a "Here are the changes" and how to cope with the new "stuff".

Since it was re-hashed, I thought I'd chime in. I recently went to my dealership for the 5k service and told them I wanted my MMI updated as I heard there was a service bulletin out there. When I got the vehicle back, they told me they applied the update but the service receipt isn't very detailed about it... it says "Software Upgrade" (or something of the sort) but no mention of versions, features, etc.

Unfortunately I forgot to look at the version beforehand, but now it reads:

Software version: HNav_US_K0110_1_D1
Nav Database: 8R0060884A_NAR 5.2.3

Not sure if different software versions maybe account for prestige vs. premium plus features and stuff like +/- Audi Drive Select. For what it's worth, I have Prestige, S-Line, Drive Select, and Side Assist. 2009 model.

I had mine done last week. Went in for an oil top-up prior to going on holiday. The service advisor came out and told me that there was a software upgrade for my car and that they were going to be calling me in the new year but seeing as I was there anyway...

Said it would take about an hour but it ended up taking closer to 4 hours. Apparently three major updates were available including one for the gearbox. I have definitely noticed some improvements in this department, including a much quicker response when using "manual" mode on either the stick or the paddle shifters on the steering wheel. Other two upgrades were for the ECU and MMI but to be honest, cannot see or feel any differences in these departments, nor have I ever experienced any problems here. my stores radio stations were not affected (unless they re-programmed them for me exactly, unlikely).

The chap I spoke to did not seem very clear on what the finer details on the upgrade were, just that they were on these three items.

I couldn't wait for the 5000 mile oil change as my MMI had a few issues. First it was the ipod, went into the store one day and came out to find my ipod was no longer seen. As a matter of fact it was dead. The screen was dark and I could just barely see the Audi interface on it. Brought into the house and about 24 hrs later it came back on. Then I had all kinds of issues with it as it kept going back to displaying only 2 songs.

Next it was my phone, some days it would link with it and sometimes not.

Then the final straw was when I lost all volume in the car. Now that really pissed me off not having any music. So they took me in that day and updated it and did the rear taillights. So far so good, it's nice to have the nav stay in the distance you set it at as mine would always default back to 3/4 of a mile.

Probably the same issue that was brought up by smca on the first page.
