Just had my 15k service and the car came back with original drl setting (lights out when turn signal is in operation. Asked the dealer to reset and after 45 minutes they said Audi had changed the coding and that they couldn't get it to stick... Anybody find a way around this? Thanks

Sounds like the SVM system reset all your VCDS mods. Annoying, but a fact of life with these cars.

Very annoying. And there's no way to have them not reset it even if you ask correct?

Audi needs to get their lawyers to find out what will fly in the US, regarding these things we can change with the VAG-com cable and make it part of the MMI.

Needle Sweep? No lawsuits there, yes? OK, check.

Convenience open and close of windows? Hmm lawsuit possibility? Not if pinch protection still works. Undetermined.

Winking effect of turn signal and DRLs? No problemo, legal wise. OK, check.

Lap timer? Are you kidding, let em turn that on and off, too. OK, check.

And the list goes on and on. . .

They also will reflash the whole damn thing, so if you have an APR recode, there is a chance it will be zapped too.

Beware.

I couldn't agree more. I mean the car is obviously set up that way let it go!! I mean the convenience windows and sunroof...I mean make that a selling point for the car make it a "standard" feature.

The dealer service rep (whom I trust) stated that Audi changed the coding to NOT allow an override... they tried for over a half an hour). I'm hoping somebody knows a work-around.

Why would this be an issue of such import that they would work to deny it being done in the first place?

More likely the dealer just doesn't know the correct coding. The system they use is completely different from VAG-COM. It's much more complex and doesn't have any of the user-friendly checkboxes that VAG-COM has for features.

I bet if you got hold of a VAG-COM again you could restore the lights to the way you want pretty easily.

I agree that removing convenience open and close doesn't make sense.

The needle sweep is removed probably so it can be reserved for the A5 (which has higher margins than the A4).

The winking DRL may be to be overly strict in meeting DOT requirements for side signals. Or maybe from some sort of fear of lawsuits.

I can sort of see why they don't have the lap timer, in the sense that they don't want to be seen as promoting use of the car for racing or on a track. Again probably for some fear of lawsuits if someone gets hurt on a track and their lawyer says that putting a lap timer in the car means Audi is encouraging them to track it.
