Does anybody know how a non s-line Sport transmission works on the Q5? Does it go into sport automatic shifting mode when you put it into S and if you shift to the right, then up shift and down shift by moving the lever up and down?

Works the same as the s-line. Put it to the over to the right (in S mode) and you are in sport mode. Shift up or down and you are in manual mode.

So it has a regular mode, sport mode and a manual mode right?

Correct. One correction though. One step below is sport mode, and one step over from D is manual mode.
