View Full Version : Trunk opening...on it's own.
bob m 08-12-2009, 04:45 AM Ok, so when I found the trunk opened for a 4th time I thought it may have had something to do with the gargare door remote..signals interfering or what not. But that wasn't the case, so I brought my car in for service yesterday; they didn't get to work on it yesterday, but will today. Awaiting answers/fixes. In the meantime, they gave me a Q7 loaner and must say, just doesn't compare to the "fun" driving experience of the Q5.

Jusforfun 08-12-2009, 04:49 AM Has it always happened when the car is in the same location?

Well, it was in my driveway all times.

supahan 08-12-2009, 05:37 PM Wow that would make me very paranoid. Update us on the fix. good luck.
The G Man 08-12-2009, 07:11 PM Try parking the Q the other way around, if it still open by itself, then its not interference.
edwyun 08-12-2009, 09:17 PM Bob, weren't there other Q5 owners having this issue as well?
s3marc 08-13-2009, 12:36 AM I had a problem with the tailgate being half open when I returned to the car.... I posted a thread
It has thankfully only happened once and thus far never repeated.
My dealer is currently replacing various parts as I believe the car has being throwing a few error codes which have been logged. Netx for a change is the second motor , I believe they are also replaced the first motor and a switch.
Will let you know how I go.
bayridgeguy 08-13-2009, 01:45 AM I had a trunk problem, but a little different. It wouldn't always open from the switch on the trunk. The dealer finally found a lose wire and secured it. It has been ok for about a week now...
bob m 08-13-2009, 07:22 PM Update is - after testing, dealer could not duplicate problem. Hopefully emphasis on hopefuly, this won't happen again. Imagine leaving my car for 12 hours on the street in NYC while I am at work and coming back and finding the trunk open...if the car was stiil there, or how about a nice thunder storm - yikes!
Just hope it was some type of fluke.

Yep, that's where the word "imagine" enters in. Not a nice feeling.

edwyun 08-14-2009, 08:36 AM I guess one way to see if the garage opener is interfering is to turn it off and then see if the trunk opens by itself.
I can't imagine how a radio controlled garage opener can affect the trunk release though (isn't it electromechanical)?

Oh, I tried that; didnt work; was just a shot in the dark.

Isnt there a button on the fob to open the hatch?

Yeah, I see your point. =)

Or maybe the neighbors remote to a 2000 Audi A4 is controlling a 2009/2010 Q5's trunk? Maybe Audi ran out of unique combinations to encrypt the remotes :D
