Does anyone else find the A6 handling/steering very light especially at low speeds. The first time I test drove one I thought something was wrong and told the dealer about it. But after reading a couple reviews it sounds like it is normal.

Do any options or after market bits tighten it up?

I noticed that too - I believe it is because of active steering which makes the steering light on low speeds and then gives it a heavy feel on highway speeds. From what I remember, Active steering used to be a $2200 option in the BMW 3 series. I have not explored options to disable this.

Its the Active Steering.. there is a DIY on how to toggle it with a switch.

Why would you want heavy steering at parking lot speed?

I like feeling connected to the road. If fact, I used to like cars that didn't have power steering, except when trying to parrellel park, of course.

The feeling I get is heavy. When going around corners, it feels like I have to turn the wheel to straighten the car out.

You want to feel connected to the road going 5 MPH in a parking lot ??? The Audi steering tighten up by quite a bit by the time you get up to 35 MPH, thats when you really want to feel the road.

That's cool never new my car had Active Steering. I always thought it was an option reserved for flagship german cars. How would I toggle it on/off of a 05 A6?

Some people think that active steering is too light even at highway speeds, so they toggle it off. You can toggle on for parking lots or the wife.

If you really want to get rid of the servotronic steering you can do it in a matter of seconds. Some call it "the 640 mod". Here's a link to a thread on another forum where a bunch of guys have done it to their B7 A4s. I haven't done it to mine...but here it is..

Try it out, if you don't like it it takes seconds to make it like factory again.

From what I understand it's just a fuse. Just pulls out. And wether you use your muscle power, or the cars power to turn the wheel it's all the same. If you get into a warranty issue, just put the fuse back before you turn the car in.

true good point thant Kermer1 for entertaining my questions. How do I open the fuse panel on the driver side door? I stuck my hand in the little vent, but I am afraid I will break it. whats the proper way of opening?

Best bet is using a flathead screwdriver and prying it open from the bottom.

Does not work on the A6 and I tried pulling fuse 13 on the drivers side, but I got a ESP error and no difference so I stuck it back in. I couldn't find the 640 fuse checked both sides.

Just put your fingers in those vents and yanks it out.

Upon further research, it appears that there is no 640 fuse in the C6. The pic in post 16 verifies this fact. There is, however, either a 605 or 628 fuse, depending on the year. It is supposed to be located behind the panel under the steering column, though I have not verified this first hand. As soon as my back quits the spasms I will get under there and see. The light feel of the steering is one of the few things I would change given the opportunity, so I'm hoping this mod works.
