View Full Version : Click noise when accelerating
doshim 08-10-2009, 09:50 PM Hey all, just bought a '09 A4 2.0T automatic. When Im accelerating from stop, I always feel this click or two on the accelerator after i step on the gas for a few seconds - I can hear it too. Any thoughts on what it might be or is that normal?
FreshTracks 08-10-2009, 10:55 PM Yup I've posted about this too and can't figure out what it is. I only get it on the initial start. After the first acceleration, it doesn't resurface.

same here. i took it to the dealership and they said they couldnt duplicate the problem?
doshim 08-11-2009, 05:03 AM yeah it always seems to happen around the time when the doors auto lock. after that its a nice smooth ride. ill let u know if the dealer says anything else...
Mobilehavoc 08-11-2009, 06:35 AM I've had this happen since I got the car in Sept 08...just figured it was normal.
edwyun 08-12-2009, 12:09 PM Ditto but on Q5:

BMWBig6 08-14-2009, 11:57 AM After how many seconds does the click occur? You guys aren't talking about the hill-hold feature disengaging as you take off from a stop, are you?
Do you hear it, or feel it? (Or both?)
macuser 08-14-2009, 12:20 PM i feel it maybe 3 or 4 seconds into accelerating. it lasts for maybe a second. sometimes i feel it a second time after 1 or 2 seconds.
mythikalazn 08-15-2009, 01:54 AM yeah, i sense the same thing. it only happens after i initially start the car and start accelerating for the first time, and it happens every single time. there is about two clicks right before the auto lock engages. i can actually feel it on my feet against the gas pedal. i figure it was a normal thing, at least i hope it's normal.

exactly the same on my Q5.
cacher_k61_wpg 08-15-2009, 08:23 AM My Avant has always done this, and then when it was in for some warranty work (bad strut mount) I was given an A4 Sedan as a loaner. Exactly the same sensation. Must be a "feature" of the new A4s.
Moviela 08-15-2009, 09:57 PM I notice that when starting it takes a few spins of the crank to get the cams positioned properly, and it clatters a bit. Then when starting off the Valve lift solenoids do a tap dance. Any chance this is what you hear and feel?

yeah thats exactly it. 2 clicks before auto lock. and i feel it against the gas pedal and hear it too. must be normal if everyones got the same thing. doesn't seem to be causing any problems...
tonedogg02 08-17-2009, 11:56 AM I experience the clicking noises at startup as well. I have also felt the clicking after hitting particularly nasty potholes. I assumed something was being readjusted and simply lifted off the gas and the clicking stopped.
