Alright - I just bought a 09 A4 Auto Turbo. There are 600 miles on it. I have nothing bad to say about it yet one BIG question. When the car downshifts from 2nd gear to 1st gear there is a good startling jerk/thump/clunk. It happens in D,S,and M. I brought it back to the dealer. After tests they said it returned zero errors and that all 09 A4s do it! I took there word for it yet its still bothering me - it just does not seem right - I cannot imagine your average Audi owner putting up with it. I have driven a v8 ford explorer, 3 series BMW, 4.4 X5, Acura TL etc..and I have never experienced anything like. I am tempted to bring it to the service shop of a dealer I did NOT buy it from to see what they have to say. Anyone have an insight? Is this par for the course of this transmission?

Many people (including myself) have experienced it. It's par for the course. Learn to live with it.

I think it has to do with the gap between 1st and 2nd gear. From what I understand, 1st and 2nd are spaced relatively far apart and it could just be a bit of a jerk from that big change in engine speeds. Still, seems a bit crazy that you'd feel it that much, oh well.

I am shocked that its not written about everywhere - I love the car - well made, tight, comfortable etc - that one thing drives me crazy. Between that and the super tight breaks that entire shift throws me forward a bit. Its smooth everywhere else.....

Well I agree - its that feeling/sound you get pre-stall on a man. I can see it being an engine speed thing - its like resistance is a bit much for the engine during the initial jump in rpms....

I've found that if I break differently it minimizes this almost unnoticable it more when i just slam on the brakes you really feel it.

I have the jerk but no vibration with the sports package. The P7s are as smooth as silk. Wish I could drive the Autobahn instead of I-95.

I see Audi has not fixed the same problems that plagued the B7. Audi really has to fix this annoying problems if they want to keep their customers happy or else next car will be another brand.

The jerk from 2-1 was ridiculous on my B7. Finally after numerous attempt we finally got it fixed. The dealer fixed the shift points of the car so that one it holds gears slightly longer so it doesn't bog, and two it will not shift down to 1st gear until completely stopped. Even when rolling ever so slightly it will not shift to 1st. Viola, I no longer have that jerk issue. It hasn't returned for a good 15000 miles.

Not sure about the vibration at 70mph, but yes there was a similar shimmy on my B7 as well. We ended up changing the goodyear tires, and it fixed the issue. DIfferent tires than the b8 so I doubt it's the same, but just passing my info along.

Must be nice. Up here I-95 is a parking lot 95% of the time.

Interesting - it would make sense about the shift points. They were willing to do that without voiding the warrenty? It should have been done to begin with to be honest. I am pretty surprised that the dealers even hand the cars out like this even if you can minimize it with careful breaking. Thankfully I don't have the shimmy - although I have to say the P6s make some good road noise. I am very happy with the car shy of that. Anyone done any tuning without voiding the warrenty?

I have the same problem with my B8 and agree that it shouldn't happen. It seems out of character for the otherwise amazing rid.

Are you gonna do anything about it? I love it aside from that - -

I have my first service scheduled in a couple of weeks and will ask them to see if they can fix it. I try to ignore it but it bugs me!!
