Hey all, new to the forum. We just bought a 2009 Q5 Prestige. We LOVE IT!!!! I don't think we'll buy anything but an Audi for now on.... Except for the family Dodge Dakota we use for the dirty jobs.

The question is, we sold our 2009 Murano w/nav to get the Audi. We love the Q5's quality.... Except one thing.... THE NAV DATABASE!!!

In the Murano, it's seemed the entire yellow pages was in the database. Also, it was easy and quick to get to the "find entry" screen and just start typing the name of ANY business and the results would slowly start to populate based on distance. It didn't matter if it was a restaraunt or specific shop or something else. You didn't have to put in a city or anything, it searched based of distance... if you chose that criteria.

I notice in the Audi, the database seems very small. The controls aren't as intuitive to find a business causing us to have to find the businesses address and manually type the whole thing in.

Has there been an update to the database yet, expanding it?

Like I said, we love the Q5 .... We looked at every luxury SUV and this one we loved!!! Especially the quality of the info screens in the car and the Nvidia driven Nav Screen. Oh yeah, and the fact that going 75mph feels like 35mph, especially compared to all the others.

Thanks!!!

Peter

To clarify onthis post,

I cannot find many business in the Audi's database. It seems a simple update could fix the issue.

Either way, the Q5 is still the best!

I don't think it's an issue of how current the database is. It's almost certainly a matter of which sets of points of interest Audi is buying from Navteq. They are probably buying a less complete set of POIs to save either on money or storage space. Considering the 3G MMI is brand new I am sure the POI data was acquired within the last year.

The list of gas stations is pretty good and restaurants are ok, but I agree most other types of POI aren't very thorough. Oh well, at least I have an iPhone for that kind of stuff.

Hopefully a good update will be out in a bit. That would complete the Audi for me.

Being new to the forums you must have missed my several questions/comments about this exact same problem. I even started a couple of threads addressing the incomplete database. There are grocery stores, Wal Marts, gas stations, etc. near me that have been there for 10+ years and they are not in the database. My $300 3 year old Garmin Nuvi has EVERYTHING in it but not my $45,000 Audi. Odd. And disappointing. I also agree about the ease of use. It doesn't bother me ton but my wife isn't a real fan of the user interface. There are definitely better systems out there. Don't get me wrong, I love the car AND the Nav but the Nav could be better.

I was at the dealer last week and asked about a database update and they said they did not have one and suggested I called NAVTEQ. I haven't called yet but will update here once I talk to them.

Good idea to call Navteq. I will do the same and post the results as well.

I went through this with my Volvo navigation system when the map database was horribly out of date. Navteq told me the level of map detail and updates were manufacturer specifc, which I read to mean some companies pay more to Navteq to maintain more current updates (and you're at the mercy of what they do, sorry..). I hope you get a different answer...
