Got a Premium Plus 6MT several months ago and would like to get a Vagcom for it. I have a 99 B5 Passat and have used the freeware version of Vagcom with a cable I got on Ebay for several years. It works great for reading CEL codes, but obviously can't do much more.
My questions are:
1. What Vagcom should I buy if I want to make the mods that everyone is talking about (LED winking, sweep, etc)? I ahve looked at the Ross Tech website, but there are lots of options and some are really expensive
2. Can I use the same cable as I have with my B5?
3. When I buy a new Vagcom will it work with my B5.
I really want to get rid of the stupid winking. I asked my dealer to make some of the mods and they claimed they are not "allowed" to by Audi.
I greatly appreciate all advice
Thanks

I'm looking for a VAGCOM too.
I have similar questions. From my understanding on my limited research the cables are pretty universal (new ones anyways). You can get a serial or USB (I would go for USB) and you just download the latest version of the software.
The software is free, its the actual cable/device you connect you pay for.
If i recall then all newer version of Vagcoms from Rosstech are backwards compatible. If your car is a 2009+ you need to get the VAG-COM-CAN, which you can get in USB or Serial versions.
I suggest you guys check out http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/what_to_buy.htm

My dealer also told me AoA doesn't authorize ECU mods. Hmmm, Audi GmBh didn't have any problem with my local German dealer modifying my US spec'd A6. AoA, if you're monitoring this site, please tell us the real deal.

350 dollars... a little more than what i'd like to pay.
Group buy?

AoA has zero interest in assuming potential liability for changing the seat belt chime.
As for the LED DRL shutting off with turn signal, that to ensure adequate daytime visability of the turn signal in the US.
EU regulations are different.
North American cars are certified to meet US DOT regulations as delivered.
In today's letigious society, AoA would be reckless to officially sanction changes to their certified US spec cars.

The HEX+CAN cable is required to work with the B8 A4. While all MY2008+ cars in the US require CANBus for OBD-II diagnostics, Audi still has quite a few modules in these cars that communicate using the older ISO "K" lines. I actually have a Micro-CAN cable that I used on my MkV and now have to upgrade to the full HEX+CAN due to this. Is it worth it? I'd say so, plenty of people need engine codes pulled and nice things like windows up/down with remote. Just ask them to cover the lunch bill in return.
As for the dealer doing the mods..... some WILL do it, but most won't. The official dealer computer (VAS-5051) isn't very user friendly when it comes to module coding and most don't want to mess stuff up. Heck some dealers (and even VWoA themselves) own a VCDS package since its portable and runs on off the shelf PC laptops.

I just had my 15k service and the original change to keep the drl on during turn signal operation was canceled with the reset and the dealer tried but said that Audi revised the coding and they couldn't get it to stick again... any thoughts?
